What sound card do you use?

In my unit I just have a Microsoft default sound card according to my Device Manager. So the question is how much better will Flight sim sounds be if I upgrade mine. Let me know what you guys recommend.

Onboard and its great....

M$ FS sound is not that great anyway to warrent a sound card for my tastes...
 
Yeah, onboard Asus P6T. Onboards have come on in leaps and bounds. Unless you need specific sound manipulation or are a musician, I don't think you need anything else as far as games are concerned.
In fact I removed my SB Audentity (sp?) as it caused issues.
 
Yep, onboard Realtek running my Logitec 5.1 75 Watt system with no complaints. Loud & proud.
 
Unless your system is a real dinosaur, the onboard sound chipset should be more than enough for even hard core music listening. Many of the newer systems have onboard sound that can support up to 5.1, 6.1 and even 7.1 speaker systems. In some cases, installed a dedicated sound card can actually cause your game/sim performance to suffer as the MOBO and CPU have to spend extra energy and processes directing the sound to the sound card and powering the card. My advice, if what you hear coming from your speakers is good enough...don't fix what is broken. Just take the time to make sure that the driver for the sound chipset is up-to-date...I updated the driver to my onboard chipset and an annoying crackle instantly vanished and the quality of sound improved across the board...and I had an updated sound configuration utility with much more flexability and tuning.

I'm using an X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty and it obliterates the wimpy sound card that came with my Rampage Formula motherboard.

I don't care what people say, a nice sound card makes a huge difference, even if you only use headphones. I use a headset 95% of the time and I absolutely love my sound card. I think it is one of the best upgrades I've made to my system. The other 5% of the time I use a nice pair of M-Audio speakers.

I will never go back to onboard sound. Ever. :kilroy:
 
On board sound with Alienware Ozma 7 headphones or 1000watt rms 5.1 home cinema surround sound system (depending on which pc I'm using).
I removed my Creative X-Fi's and threw them in the cupboard!:kilroy: :icon_lol:
 
This is the first computer I've had that I've used the onboard sound chips. It seems to be fine, only hits me for about 2-3% of the cpu use.
 
I have an onboard sound module driven by Raealtek. 7.1 sound system out to a Creative 7.1 speaker setup. Works nice.
 
Am using the same card as KiwiKat: a X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty. And a 6.1 Logitech surround system. Great bass.

I have Creative X-Fi XtremGamer (or some spelling like it). I didn't notice a big difference from my onboard Realtek sound (and the drivers for Win7/64 are a little flaky right now).
 
On-board system. I use headsets in my cockpit for all sound (keeps the wife happy) except for the middle sub woofer, which is run through a low-pass filter amp and a bass shaker under the ejection seat.

On my personal PC I also use the on-board system with three ancient Altec speakers. Sounds fine to me at my desk.
 
On board AC-97 Pioneer VSX-9300 125 watt amp 2 Electro-Voice Sentry 5 2 way Horn and 10 inch bass drivers.
