I learned a long time ago. I look for stuff throughout the year. I shop before Thanksgiving. Stay home after Turkey Day.

Kathy said it was a mad house today, where she works, with the impending blizzard coming to our area. Everyone trying to squeeze it all in before the snow starts to fly. :isadizzy:

You shoulda seen the grocery store tonight...

The credit/debit/gift card processing was down because of too many transactions across the network. I'm sure glad I don't work up as a cashier or bagger. I heard there were many unfriendly things said by the customers... :mixedsmi:

I feel their pain.


I was in Electronics in a super Walmart one year. Getting through the shift each day during the Christmas rush was like winning a marathon. Walking all the way to the front of the store about 3 times an hour, dealing with people who think it pays to be mean to you, (which has the opposite effect.. common sense thing).

Horrible..

There was a special on Doctor Phil tonight on texting, lol.. Funny you mention this.

Believe it or not there is something worse than a crowded shopping mall and that is trying to shop in one in a wheelchair.

Not only is it nearly impossible to move without someone getting themselves run over (not that I mind at all, if they can't be bothered or are too impatient and push past, it's their fault). It is totally impossible to reach any goods on shelves.

A lot of people say to me, "I could do with one of those" meaning my electric wheelchair, would soon change their mind if they spend half an hour in one in any busy shop at any time of the year.

I do most of my Christmas shopping on line in November (that is if I can get a response to the question, "what would you like for Christmas dear?")

Here endeth my Christmas eve rant.

PS, only once in my ten years in a wheelchair has a store manager/owner asked why I had problems in his shop. That was last week in an family run iron mongers/hardware store. I couldn't get round the store despite efforts being made to make the shop wheelchair accessible, I left my wife to finish the shopping and waited outside.The store owner came out to me and asked what the problem was, he was mortified that I had encountered a problem in his store.

Oh, the other thing is fit people using designated disabled parking spaces because they are too lazy to walk a few yards more.

I will stop now before I get banned :bump:

You are correct though...Most do not have the time or sence to help or notice others...


Just outside my shop are two handicaped parking spots, all day long I see healthy folks with signs in their cars , get out, and walk just fine to where they are going...Like they are not using their own car.....

Then I see folks that need that spot, but they are taken by the inconsederate idiots...

I say that smugly, as my wife and I had to face the music after her mother was oput in the hospital and we had to do last minute Christmas shopping for her. Arggg!

Sandar, I salute you for even attempting to go to a mall in Dec being dependant on a wheelchair, that must be an exercise in futility. I do hope the store manager who came and spoke to you takes some action and makes a sincere effort to improve access in his store, it is at rhe very least encouraging that he spoke to you and asked "WHY".

I also have to back you 100% on the issue of able bodied people using the special needs parking spaces, I see it all the time and drives me NUTS! I have actually blocked one guy from getting into a disabled spot a couple of weeks ago, I got the "One Finger Salute" for my effort, but it felt good and after he went around the row one more time I watched as a Van pulled into the spot and a lovely young lady unloaded a wheelchair and a young boy, she must have been watching as I got a nice wave and big smile from both as they started for the mall enterance. I happen to qualify to use those spots and was provided with the Temp card for my mirror (I will not bother getting the plates as I don't feel I really should) in my case deafness does qualify me. The reason is even with my Implant I have no perception of the direction of sound so if a car approaches me from behind I can't tell where it is, to me it could be falling from the sky, but I am not mobility impared in any way - I have balance problems so I can't walk a stright line but I always get there...lol So I continue to count on luck and finding a good spot close to where I want to go, and it drives the wife nuts because I am generally very lucky and get a nice close spot, I tell her it is KARMA I do my bit to keep the ID10Ts out of the disabled spots and my reward is a good close spot, and I can parallel park when I need to - she hates that line...lol

You should try being in the Toy department! I'm still on medical restrictions from my surgery and my latest adventures has been having to help out in toys. Now, not only do I not know where anything is, when I do find it you can't get down the isle. Then when someone asks you where something is and you go to try and show them, someone else will grab you because their question is WAY more important than the person your trying to help. And it goes on and on. The closer we get to close tonight, the more rude people get.
You know, if the waited until now to try and find what they want, don't be mad at me that you can't get it! Take a look in the mirror, pal!

Now I gotta go get ready for work. (gulp, putting helmet on)
 
I am with you guys on the people who don't need it, taking the handicap parking spots. that is one of my pet peeves.

Have you ever noticed that the fatter the individual is the closer they park to the store entrance.

Sandar and Gigabyte, you guys deserve having those spots, I will never begrudge someone who needs assistance. I often thank God that I am capable of walking. I sometimes think that so long as God gives me the ability to walk, I will gladly park and walk.
 
Although I broke my back in a couple of places, I can still walk, sort of and in a part time sort of way. I never completely severed my spinal chord, but it is severely constricted. The problem is I cannot stand for too long. If I do my legs lose all feeling and, wham down I go. Hardly a day passes without me thanking the gods that I am not a permanent paraplegic.

Over the years I have perfected various undignified ways of going from the vertical to the horizontal. At least I can now usually manage it without causing any bodily damage (other than to my dignity).
 
What's worse than a crowded mall at Christmas? Being stuck in a crowded airport that's snowed in, at least that's what I hear. At least with the mall you do get to go home.

I avoid malls all year long.

Sometimes you really start to hate people and just want to plow them away.
