Skimming!

Well, I have seen this done before for real (or at least it looked real, lol), so I figured I'd give it a try. Problem is (usually), touching the water always knocked me up off the water about 1000 feet, so that's what I was expecting. I had a long lake to get my nerves calmed down enough to slowly lower the wheels into the water. . .it ain't easy, lol, lol.

Great pictures. Some day I want to try this (my to do list is soooo long). So far I have just practiced flying low over water.

With all the new Piper Cub and Super Cub models coming out with those "tundra" tires, skimming seems to be a modern fashion these days.

YouTube has many different videos showing this being done in the real world.

Unfortunately, for screenshots, there doesn't seem to be a realistic effect for the kind of spray you'd get doing this, especially after watching the videos.

FSX has this sort of puffy, smokish looking spray effect that isn't very realistic. Oh well.

I remember flying round Morcambe Bay in the UK at sea level with a fellow microlight pilot in echelon formation when his wheels skimmed the water slightly infront of me. Quite un nerving at the time as I seen water spray up, but we laughed later !

I don't see how in some of those shots how they get back up in the air from where they have landed! Nice video though but leaves mystery in my brain.

Works better if you throw a set of float points just above the tire contact points (I did this on my Super Pacer Tundra Tire release)

I love doing that. Although it will only work on some planes. What's really tricky is dipping your wing tip into the water and not having it all end in tears.

For fun you can also try landing a helicopter on water. See how low you can get before the crash detection kicks in.
