Isn't that MAI3 neat?

The British had a similar design by Westland that looked to be based on the Lysander. I'm pretty sure that our Rockster made a copy of it. Search over at simviation.com for lysanp12.zip and p12fix.zip if you want one.

The P12, I read somewhere, was designed as a strafer. I guess the rear gunner was to shoot up the beaches in reverse in the event of a Nazi invasion of England.

The MAI 3, while it looks the same, must have had a more conventional bombing role envisioned for it. It imediately caught my attention, but I couldn't find much info on it with just a quick Google. I guess in both aeroplanes, the large rear wing must have been there to support the weight of the rear turret and gunner while in flight.
 
The French did something similar...

...and Payakan built it: the Arsenal Dellane AD-10. Checking out, I perceived I never upload it!

Some of you gave me links to Tango Romeo's work aand while over there I grabbed both the Russian plane and the Vanguard because of it's use in China, thanks for bringing this to our attention Rami.

I'm having a blast with the Simtech Do.335, just need to check the gun/sight allignment since Jagd put me onto it. I'm planning on unzipping and flying the GRUSHIN soon.

Now Bismarck13 has uploaded a wonderful Arsenal Vg-33, a French fighter that if produced in sufficient numbers might have given the Bf-109e a tough time in 1940!

As typical...it just wasn't quite these yet.

She doesn't climb at 7,600 feet a minute, though. Realistically it should be about 2,520 ft/min or so.

Some other things I noticed are that the engine displacement per cylinder was too small, it should be about 183-ish cubic inches per cylinder. (The Hispano-Suiza was a large engine, slightly larger than a DB-601, and bigger than an Allison or Merlin)

The engine compression ratio is wrong, it should be about 5.8:1, and the maximum manifold pressure should be about 37.8 inches of mercury, not 61 inches. The engine in this model is rated for 860hp @ 2,400 RPM.

I adjusted these in my airfile, but it's still a WIP.

Sorry guys, I uploaded this with the wrong airfile. I think it belongs to a Mustang. Peperez sent me a new one yesterday, after I uploaded it, which is supposed to be accurate. I haven't yet tried it. I will try to upload it as a seperate upload as soon as I can. I seem to have managed to catch some version of the flu so it might not be for a day or so.

In the meantime you can either fly the French "Mustang" or take this file and rename it to VG33.air and try it:

Hi guys!

If I may suggest, another aircraft neglected by designers, quite understandably so, which took part to the Battle of France is RAF's Fairey Battle.

Fairey Battles suffered huge losses in WWII very early years, but Fairey developed the Royal Navy Fulmar fighter from the Battle airframe.

I don't know of any Fairey Battle model available for CFS2.

Tweaks for the Grushin

I downloaded and installed Bismarck's very unique and very well done Grushin. Took it to the sky for a round of crash testing and found two things that were not to my liking.

1) The VC view seemed a bit low and gave very little forward visibility along the nose...which made defection shooting against other aircraft difficult. So, I raised the VC view up 3 inches and redid the gun sight texture to match that elevation increase. Now you have a much better forward view of the target, have a better sight window when drawing a bead against an enemy aircraft, and can do deflection shooting with a lot more success.

2) The rudder input was practically non-existant, which made turning this bird on the ground pretty difficult, made deflection shooting very difficult. So I increased rudder efficiency by 75% and decreased yaw stability by 25%. Now the rudder input is much better, coordinated turns on the ground and in the air are much nicer and you can now walk your bullets from side to side to take the enemy out of the picture.

I am attaching a zip file with the tweaked aircraft.cfg file and the revised gunsight texture. Make backups of the originals in case you don't like the changes I made. Once you have the originals safe guarded, just drop the gsight.bmp file into the texture folder and drop the aircraft.cfg file into the Grushin MAI-3 folder.

Oh, I will be working on a sound pack for this plane....using Lawdog's Gnome Rhone 14N as the basis. The Grushin used a derivative of the Gnome Rhone 14K...so I will be passing the GR 14N files through my handy dandy wave editor and coming up with something unique for the Grushin.
