I had FSX on a one-step-off-bleeding-edge machine, and it never really lived up to expectations.

When I dumped Vista for Win7, I put in a second 10,000rpm drive, and installed it there.
Just for fun, I installed FSX there too.
What a transformation...I think everything is maxxed, and it delivers a solid 25 fps locked all over Switzerland Pro (which was the reason for re-installing FSX, as the FS9 version is rubbish, should be freeware, and indeed came along for nothing in the FSX-flavoured box. But I digress).

I suppose given time one could break this install too, loading it up with Stuff.
But for now, a Virgin Win7 with a Virgin FSX (and one addon), sitting together on a fast HDD with nothing else, actually works. :jawdrop:

yes - just after a fresh install and with the fsx.cfg properly dialed in it IS smooth...unfortunately so much of default FSX is just a poor place holder for the terrain, environment and endless other enhancements it absolutely needs - that it just doesn't matter.

but yeah for a day or so its fun to get the smoother, higher FPS in default

Tongass Fjords is an absolute must as you have already shown...nice glacier run

Must be nice to have the Swiss package.

Do you have Win7 64 and how much RAM are you running?

Congrats on finding a way to cleanse the 'v' word from your system.

I hate when people put Vista down. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and Win7 is barely any different from it.

Congrats on your "new" system.

Glad to hear your new setup is working for you and you're able to enjoy FSX as it should be.

There are plenty of developers who'd disagree, although I myself am more than happy with it for now.

Can I also ask you if you really 'hate' something so meaningless? Hate is such a brutal world and I often think misplaced in conversations when relating to a simply annoyance.

Great visuals in that scenery, for sure.
I was inspired by a Mirage video I saw here!

Needless to say...one of the flights with Switzerland Pro is an approach to Zurich. There everything slowed somewhat dramatically, 11fps.

Ah well, I have a sim that you can fly solo in the mountains far from the madding crowd, looking at all the pleasant scenery, and take some pretty screenshots.

Win7 is 32 bit on 4 GB RAM - I don't have any 64 bit apps on the horizon.
I like this OS, it just gets on and does the job.
