Some FSX Qs

Hi

1. How go you change the default tug plane for pulling gliders?

2. Is it possible to change the MS mission default planes? The reason I ask this is that I would like to do the soaring missions with the Aerosoft Discus.

And if anyone from Aerosoft is listening please make a racing missions pack for the Discus.

Thanks

Ben

I'm pretty certain about #2. Yes you can change the aircraft type, however, you don't get credit for the mission if you change.

Check out my Airspeed Horsa glider at flightsim and simviation. It has instructions in the readme for changing the tow plane and includes a low poly Halifax to tow the Horsa.

Cheers, Paul

To change the aircraft in a mission you have to check the checkbox at the bottom of your mission-selection screen. It reads something like "changes in mission...". As been said you won´t get any credits for your success.

As to change the glider tow, in the aircraft.cfg of the maule you´ll find an entry of the towplane. If I recall this correctly you just need to copy it to any other aircraft cfg (perhaps with some changes???, see horsa glider manual) and disable it within the Maule cfg.

I'd think you get the discus into the mission with exactly the same method. Just copy the title of the mission glider into the Discus' cfg and rename it slightly in the original cfg. N'est pas? :kilroy:

Download and install a freeware module nammed "Aerotow".
It will allow you to choose your towing aircraft, and you will even be able to tell the towing aircraft to fly in left/right circles, or to follow a flight plan.

If you're going for gliders in FSX, you'll probably want to download and install the freeware module CumulusX! too, to generated ridge lift.

You can change everything you want in a mission, as long as you tick the little checkbox "allow changes" at the bottom of the mission list.

Actually, you can alter the mission files themselves, to change the plane and still get credit. I did this to replace the default piper cub with the A2A one. I don't know if this messes up any special activities (haven't tried flower bomb mission yet, for example).

What you do is you go to your main fsx folder -> missions. Then look in the right folder (sorted by mission category). Next find the mission you want to alter, open it's folder. Inside there'll be a .FLT file. Open it with notepad, press "CTRL+F" to open the search function, search for "Sim=". There you will find the title of the plane that's being used in that mission. Now find the title (in the aircraft.cfg file) of the plane you want to change it with, and simply replace and save :).

Tested it with tutorial 1. I just got my tin wings in an Iris F-16 :D

Do you really get the reward if you change the aircraft title in the .flt file?
Didn't test it yet.

I love this forum.....

There I wuz, trying to figure out how to do that...and it was all right here.

Thanks guys!
