OT: Suberbowl commercial you should be sure to miss ...

just one more reason i can point to for why i don't do television.
all of you who don't like it, and still watch the game anyway?

just remember that you rewarded the network for delivering content you weren't happy with. i have no sympathy for you in the slightest.
when people begin end the laziness and stand up for themselves these kinds of things will end.

it will continue as long as 99.9% of you watch the game anyhow.
turn off your television and walk away, or don't whine about it.

:wavey:

......... and yet, you turned off your television, walked away and you're still whining about it.

Oh well, now it's on your internet as well :monkies:

It isn’t about tolerance, nor is it about censorship. If I come over to your house for a gathering, and you ask the guests to please kindly refrain from talking about topic ______, I will not care why you ask, only that you did, and I, as a guest, will comply with your request, because it’s the polite thing to do. That's pretty easy, isn't it?

a) It's just advertising, not a presidential speech or something else important.

b) I bet my sorry life that you wouldn't be offended if this ad was about two good-looking women making out.

c) You can talk about anything you want at my gatherings. Heck, my last birthday party turned into a heated debate about Hitler for about half an hour. Bottom line was that no one got hurt and we partied on. Why? Tolerance for each other's opinions.

In the words of Rodney King: Can't we all just get along?

In a delightfully hypocritical twist I'm intolerant of intolerance. To hell with everyone being allowed an equal opinion. Some people's opinions are too damn stupid, illogical, poorly considered, badly researched and infuriatingly Neanderthal-like to even be considered.

When people are prejudiced against others for no rational reason whatsoever (insert race, colour, religion, sexuality, history, choice of ice-cream flavour, Babylon 5 or Deep Space 9, FSX or FS9 and a variety of other things as appropriate) then no, we really all can't just get along.

There is a place and a time for ads like the one linked above, during a prime time football game when families with small children watching is not one of those times. Sorry.

I wonder how many scantily clad women there will be on GoDaddy commercials this year? How many beer commercials? How many commercials with "suggestive" material? How many commercials with violence? How many commercials with foul language? :kilroy:

if you're worried about small children watching, this commercial is only a small worry on top of the rest of them.

... if you're worried about small children watching, this commercial is only a small worry on top of the rest of them.

Yep you're right, and I can not count the number of times I've had to explain something to my young (at the time) daughter, who always made it a point to watch football with Daddy.

Obio, Rodney King is no role model to be held up to others. He's one of the most criminally inclined individuals you'd never want to meet. A better prescription would be to treat others as you would like to be treated and hold your ground against the aggressors.

Those who loudly proclaim "tolerance" are usually the most intolerant of those with whom they disagree!

Cheers,
Dave

Do you know Rodney King personally? What makes you say he is criminally inclined? He may not be a role model, but after the sh*t he's been through, beaten mercilessly, robbed at gunpoint and shot in the face with a shotgun, his struggle with alcoholism and the negative effects it had on his family and health...give the guy a break already! I think Obio's post was tongue in cheek anyways.

A quick search will lead you to a fairly long list of Rodney King's criminal activities.

I'm mildly curious; I know nothing about the Superbowl nor do I have any inclination what kind of ads they show "normally".
The Super Bowl is the final championship game of US Football, and probably the most watched sporting event (if not television show in general) of the year. As such, advertising space goes for a very high price. One report puts this year's ads selling for $2.5-2.8 million per 30 seconds air time! As such, there's a tradition of very high production values. Some of them are 90 second mini movies or mini concerts that likely cost as much to make as they do to air. Some people who care nothing about the sport still watch just for the commercials.

Gee. Something about the 1st Amendment, maybe? :icon_lol:
If they were advertising on a public sidewalk (without violating local sign ordinances) that would be covered by the 1st Ammendment. This is private commerce, not protected speech.

If they're willing to pay the money, and it's not obscene, then why shouldn't they be allowed to run it?
Because CBS has to worry about ratings. (See my first paragraph.)If they air something that offends their audience, they may decide to turn the channel. When that happens, ratings go down and demand and price for future ad spaces go down. CBS ends up losing money in the long-term.

Id rather have those than the 10 or more commericals they'll run telling you how taking this pill will keep you ready for that intimate moment, be nice not to hear about Bobs h**don or what to do if he cant get it down.

Guys...Lets please just agree to disagree...

Its only a post about a commercial for the Superbowl..

There is no real point in trying to one up od out prove anyone here...

Maud..fetch me the keys, I fixin to lock em all up...LOL

Do you really think people will give up watching the super bowl over a single stupid commercial? This is another example of Fox News making a news story out of a non-issue (and it is working as evidenced here). It is CBS's prerogative to air what they choose.

Actually djscoo, if you'll pay attention to the link, its under the entertainment section of the site ... its not actually real news, and its written by a person who would rather watch celebutards than write about actual news worthy events.

You're far too young to be so angry. I refer you back to my previous post ...

Don't worry .... Be happy!

Religious conservatives watch the game too. If they are offended enough, they might just turn the channel. CBS knows this - they have experts in the field of demographics whose jobs are to match the right commercial to the right show to make sure the spots reach their intended audience.
