Pilot dies Passgenger flies Kingair

Thx for sharing -

Excellent - Bravo for for the new Twin Engine Pilot - :salute:

Cheers -

Got this in the mail this morning. This is actual audio and radar coverage of a passenger with mere SEL experience - with the help of ATC - flew the Kingair to touchdown after the pilot died. A well executed safe landing.

Yea, I remember listening to this early last year I think. I wondered at the time, how that scenario would have played out, had the guy not had any experience at all.

Wow! Just Wow! I was literally on the edge of my seat through the entire thing, and cheered when they handed him off to ground. My wife says she remembers it on the news (though I don't), but really, Wow! Just amazing.

Yeah, that was interesting. If you would like to hear the pilot (Doug White) commentary on that day and are a member of AOPA. Go to 'Pinch Hitting a King Air' in Real Pilot Stories.

Awesome audio.... Sad about the pilot, but at least Doug white was able to bring the plane down safely...

Yea, that's some good info there. Doug just sounds like a pretty laid back country boy, lol. He did a great job though, must have felt like he was flying a commercial airliner compared to the high wing stuff he was used to. Well Done Doug!!:salute:

Poor guy :kilroy:; having to transitioned from passenger to Solo'ing MEL all in one day with his life on the line! :salute: Glad he made it alive, though someone should have recommended FSX (with its default King Air) to him before that flight...Huh!!! :icon_lol:

Anyone know what killed the PIC?

Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."

Thank you very much.

If I remember right, it was a heart attack. Also, I don't know how many picked up on this, but the pilots family was in the aircraft as well. When the controller asked how many souls were on board and Doug answered "5". That had to be pretty rough for them as well.

Yeah, I caught it... And, I'm sure they are all very proud of him today; and will pitch-in (if he needs $$$) for him to get at least 1hr as a SEL (as a Private pilot) since he mentioned that he had 0 (Zero) Hrs as SEL. :salute:

Yeah this is somewhat old news.... the radar data I haven't seen. But anyway the pilot onboard and controller did an excellent job handling this. When I went to OK for radar training that very controller (the trainee) was in a class opposite of me.

Well done, unfortunate about the guy who passed away though...

Really enjoyed that , jezzz hope they gave the chap his twin engine rating after that :engel016:

No doubt tragic news about the pilot. Very unfortunate and horrible.

Glad it worked as well as it could after that. But, in terms of earning the AMEL certificate after the fact, the most vital part of that certificate is demonstrating you can properly handle the asymetric thrust of an engine failure.

So, this ASEL pilot was lucky in the sense that at least he didn't have an engine failure. No question, an admirable job of keeping one's wits about oneself under the most dire of circumstances. Certainly he should seriously think about earning the certificate. He's got one heck of a story to tell his instructor and pilot examiner!

He did an incrediable job ..I too was on the edge of my seat cheering him on...:applause:
