Really on the fence...

Hey guys,

I'm really on the fence of what to do regarding Defense of Australia. The issue is regarding what to do about the P-40. There are three viable choices, the FDG model, the K. Malinowski version, and Leroy10's upcoming model.

The problem is that the first two choices have the same .dp mode for weapons choices, so switching one for the other is a cinch. I've designed the missions to use the FDG P-40 especially with regards to range and fuel load, but the other choices are certainly viable. If I chose the P-40 by Leroy10, I'll have to go back and rework the missions to use Leroy's model.

The other problem is the Port Moresby complex. All of the beta testers have complained (and justly so) about AI crashes on landing at Seven-Mile. To fix this, I've experimenting with flipping the headings of the runway around so that you take off to the northwest and land coming in from the northwest rather than taking off to the southeast and landing coming in from the southeast. This allows you to miss the low ridge that is just off the runway. I'll put my theories to the test tonight and tomorrow.

I'd also like to wait for the Australian Radio chatter to be finished.

I can still release the P-39 campaign in the interim once I get it finished....MAYBE I can get it finished this weekend.

Any opinions here?

You can always fix the DP so Leroy's P-40 matches the others. If you ask him I'm sure there would be no problem.I already told him I was going to fix bombloads on it.

Hi Rami,

In a very rare event I took 8 of my P-40's up against 8 Zero's in QC and all bar 2 of my wingmen survived. Good thing was the 2 I lost were shot down and didn't crash and I even managed to get them to shoot down a couple.

Fuel range will be spot on as I've set it to consume exactly 38g/hr as per RAAF specs.

I'd actually be a little surprised if the AI crashed with my .air file. Angle of attack, roll and climb rates are all set to specs. There's only only one way to find out I guess so when I get home from work I'll send you latest and you can give it a spin.

Cheers :ernae:

I went through tonight and changed all the runway entries manually. I tested them and they work, so you should be able to land now without experiencing AI crashes. :ernae:

More testing to follow...

All I can tell you is it will be a couple more weeks until the chatter is finished. Like you, I am striving to improve the quality. After all, its not like there aren't many other fine quality campaigns you have given us, and I am behind on flying sooo many of them.

Your moto should be "Quality First." That being satisfied, get 'er uploaded.
