Warbirdsim P-51 Update

Think my will power is crumbling.

Let's see if we can crumble it further..

Great work, Bruce!
I think I will not upload this one...;)

Jan, you did an amazing job on your last one!
The weathering is stunning...:applause::applause::applause:

The bald eagle is very popular apparently, and I have the FS9 version flying already!
But by all means, Stephan, do upload it. We can make comparisons and pick the one we like. I spotted a few differences already...

Luckily, nobody thought about this one yet...

I still have to sort a few odds and ends, but I like the combination of a camouflaged aircraft with a bright nose!

...even I have a Bald Eagle repaint, though I haven't released it. :)

In mine, the nose anti-glare shield is typical olive drab, from the factory, but the olive drab on the rear fuselage and on the top surfaces of the wings is portrayed with RAF green instead. As far as I know, this is how it would have originally been during WWII (since it was really the only available paint close enough to olive drab for the squadrons to use - I also have a profile done up this way). They could have painted over the glare shield in RAF green as well. The P-51B "Old Crow" was a bare metal Mustang, painted in RAF green in the field, which is recreated within the product, so you can see the direct difference between the factory olive drab and RAF green applications.

Jan Kees, I am also a big fan of olive drab - 352nd FG schemes. One thing to look out for, is that a lot of the OD schemes carried the earlier, first shade of blue, that the squadron used. This shade was even lighter than the shade used on your repaints to date, and "Princess Elizabeth", which was the second, more medium shade. Based on my recollection, you have the correct shade in this instance. Then there was the the third and final shade of blue as well, but wasn't in use until late in the war.

Again, I love seeing all of these repaints from everyone! Superb work!

Hey Doublecool,

I'm not sure about releasing any repaints myself, but I do know that one of Warbirdsim's goals is to arrange a method in which all of our customer's repaints will be available, in a centralized way, through Warbirdsim's web site.

A problem that faces me right now, is the update that is underway for the FSX P-51B/C product. The exterior has been under surgery, to the point that it will require slightly different texture layouts for the exterior, than are currently in place, both for higher resolution and corrected items. As this is the case, it would probably be a good thing if all repainters keep their layered files intact. Right now it looks like the update would be released sometime in late summer - it all depends on when the D is finished, and there will be a number of months following this to really get the update finished off - while still doing work to support it.

Might I suggest that when you bring out the update, you give it a different model number(s), so we can keep the old paints, while any new ones can use the new model. There are already 5 models in the folder, so a few more won't hurt I think?

Meanwhile, here's an update:

This PZ-S is beautiful, Jan...:applause::applause::applause:

My next one is the 'Beantown Banshee' in a new 2048*2048 livery:

I'd be curious to know how these updates will impact us FS9 users. For example, I've converted all of Jankee's FSX repaints into FS9 and would hate to be unable to do that down the road if the models are changed for FSX and not for FS9. :sleep:

Does this come with the "PureSound" as well? The Warbirdsim site says "SOON" in regards to PureSound, so I'm wondering if it's a future release.

Wonderful jobs on the Banshee and Sallee, guys!

btw, I uploaded a few more on Ozx, more to follow...

Great looking repaints everyone! :salute: :salute:

Jan Kees, I really like the weathering you're doing with your skins. :applause: :applause:

I'm still an FS9'er so I'll just watch and admire from a distance. Good work is good work, no matter the sim. :kilroy:

if you resize the textures to 1024, and convert them to bmp, they work just as well in FS9!
