Getting new Flight Achievement Badges are cool, especially since they get harder and harder to get as you go along. :applause:

I just nabbed the 750 Hours IFR badge the other day.

The pride in knowing you made it to 800 landings. I can't wait to get my 1,000 flight hour achievment. Only 80 some odd more to go. Only have 400 landings. Must to either a lot of flying, or a lot of touch & goes. :isadizzy:

How do you back these up? I had many of these when I upgraded to windows 7 from Vista and had to start over. I am getting a new PC soon and don't want to start over yet again.

Anybody know where these are stored?

I do a lot of short flights. In fact, most of my FS flights are circuits around the landing pattern. It's the fun part for me. I'm always working hard during the landing, trying not to bend it, sometimes succeeding!

An excellent question! I've had the same experience when I bought a new computer and re-installed FSX...

EDIT: The logbook is located at c:\Users[your user]\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\Logbook.BIN But, I don't know how to merge one with a previous installation.

All of the awards and achievments are stored in the file "GrantedRewards.BIN" in the same folder that the FSX.cfg file is found.

W7 = "username"\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

The only reason that you need to actually back this file up is if your trying to hang on to the Merit Badges and Prizes etc, that you get from flying missions.

The Flight Achievments Awards like number of landings, number of airports and accumulated flight hours are generated directly from your logbook.bin file. In fact I delete my GrantedRewards.BIN file and let it rebuild after I get a new flight award. That way it keeps all of the similar awards in order.

For some reason FSX never rewards me lol, I have 1000's of hours yet I never get any rewards lmao! (Only ear ache from my lass) haha
oops forgot to say congrats BTW!

I have only 160 hours but 670 landings. Was surprised when I realized that I had averaged a landing every fifteen minutes or so. Just seems like the fun part of flying to me. I've only done a couple of long flights in the fast movers.

As for merging the logbook.bin file, I just backed it up before re-installing windoze and then copied it into the folder mentioned above after I had reinstalled FSX.

This sure is cheaper than real flying! BTW, in response to an earlier post about Harvey Field in FTX PNW, I rode my motorcycle over there today to see what it looked like in real life; what a neat little airport! I should bring a camera next time and post a few here.

Sad but true! I've actually logged more actual pilot time than FSX time! :icon_lol:

Hi Folks

Paul -
Congrats on reaching 800 landings.

Its great to see everyone appreciating their Pilot Records achievements.

re: Merging Logbooks
AFAIK there is no FSX logbook merging tool.

If theres any Java programmer out there,
they could modify the supplied source code
for Lamont Clarke's FSX Log Book Editor, (see FSDev link below),
which allows you to export your old FSX logbook to a csv.
so you could then import that csv into your current logbook.

File Locations -
For logbook and granted rewards file locations,
please see the Pilot Records section at - FSDeveloper - Wiki - Problem Resolving (FSX)

Larry -
I'll see your 1,500 landings and raise you to 9,492 landings. :bump:

I mainly flew choppers.
Unfortunately when MS created the logbook related rewards
they hadn't considered that scenario,
and capped the available rewards for landings at 4,000,
which I'd exceeded during beta. :icon_lol:

The logbook also fails to record multi-engine hours for choppers,
therefore never credits you with rewards for those.

Peter -
There are two aspects to rewards -
- Mission earned
- Logbook earned

Your logbook.bin is read everytime you start FSX,
or when you complete a flight, or a mission,
and they're then compared against the sandbox_rewards.RWD file's contents.

All earned rewards are then automatically granted
and recorded in your GrantedRewards.bin file.

Check that your GrantedRewards.bin still exists,
and that the .RWD content files still exist in your FSX ROOT\Rewards\ folder.
e.g.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Rewards\

Contains at least -
- sandbox_rewards.RWD
- mission_rewards.rwd
- FSXX_rewards.rwd (Acceleration users only)

currently i have over 3300 hours, and 1977 landings, most of them pretty poor :icon_lol:
i like collecting the badges and rewards .

Hi Folks

Paul: Congrats! How many takeoffs???
T -
A hell of a lot less, (962 in current logbook). :icon_lol:

The disparity being due to -
- Takeoffs only being recorded from airports/airfields,
- The logbook often fails to even record those takeoffs.
whereas landing credits can be for anywhere in the world.

A fair number of those landings
were earned whilst testing the ODG platform helipad harden locations
before having applied their AFCADs.

A small proportion were when testing/creating missions
for impacting terrain and bouncing,
whilst in slew mode, (with crash-detection off). :icon_eek:

Statistics for current logbook (not flown since Junly 09) -

Paul: Congrats! How many takeoffs???

Cheers: T

:icon_lol: :icon_lol:

In my last FSX installation, I tried to keep the logbook clean, removing flights in which I didn't takeoff and land (#landing == #take off), but then I found out that editing the logbook entries FUBARs the logbook, so in this installation I've left everything in there. And FSX will increment your landing count even if the "landing" is somewhat spectacular... So, the number of take offs != number of landings!
