Orbx is pleased to announce the immediate availability of its free demo of FTX Pacific Northwest. The demo area covers over 7,000 square miles of the Olympic Peninsula during spring season and includes all the FTX features from the full version, including upgraded default airports, roads, rivers, coastlines, 3D night lighting, photoreal mountain peaks, custom autogen, the FTX Central tool and much more. The demo is completely time-unlimited and obligation free. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Thank you! This is really appreciated here. I've been really wanting to see it.
Hopefully "soon" I'll have enough back in the budget to get PNW and both addon Airports. :jump:

Wonderful for those of us who are financially challenged at the moment! Thanks JaeKae!

I hear ya Ted!! The damn divorce lawyer has all my money! It's on my list to buy, when I have an extra fifty to burn!! It sure is purty!!

I've downloaded it several times now. I'm getting an error each time when I go to open the file. :kilroy:

I just finished downloading and it opened OK. I'd suggest flushing out any temporary files from your browser and/or using a download manager.

Excellent. Thanks for the Heads-up, can't wait to try it out.

I noticed a couple times it was stopping right at 290mb into download, then would pickup after minute.
This last time here I just paused and resumed it before that point. Went though fine! Wheeee!:jump:

Honestly, if you buy the whole thing you'll be more than happy. However, it's nice for FTX to release the demo. For me, PNW Blue the best scenery add-on I've ever seen!

Cheers,
Dave

Nice idea to get more folks interested. Installation went fine, but I did get the attached error message several times, once after the initial install and then again after selecting "North America" and "Apply".

I am on the fence with the addon right now, mostly due to funds. What I did notice while flying though was the impressive amount of Autogen and how little that affected fps. Ground textures were a more realistic deep green and building placement was nicely done and also pretty dense with no fps hit.

I've seen the really detailed areas of PNW and those impressed me quite a bit. I enjoy the small out of the way airstrips, the ones you really have to work at to land on and most if not all of those are in the full product and not in this demo. I will most likely buy this eventually, maybe by Summer, but if I wasn't necessarily interested in the product to begin with, this demo wouldn't have changed my mind.

Can anyone tell me whether it can be installed manually or does it just chuck files everywhere like the AU Blue demo!?

I've never been able to get rid of that properly!

I like the colors better than what other texture add-ons currently claim to be accurate.
Really like the default airports and grass strips.
This is definitely my next investment for FSX.

I haven't found any way to uninstall. It's not listed in the programs section of the control panel and I don't see an uninstall program in the FSX folder anywhere.

This is from the Tasmanian Demo, but should be same process for PNW Demo.
Important thing is to set it back to "Default" in the FTX Central Program first.

Uninstalling The FTX Demo
Due to the nature in how FTX is implemented, it’s not possible to have an automated uninstaller. However, the
uninstallation process is very straight forward if you follow the steps below.
1. IMPORTANT STEP: Run FTX Central by clicking the blue icon on your desktop, or selecting FTX Central
from the Start Menu | Orbx | FTX Central.

2.Now select the blue [Default FSX] icon and press the [Apply] button.
This will restore all your original backed up files which were saved prior to the installer running.

3. Navigate to your FSX root folder (usually \Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator X), and simply
delete the entire ORBX folder.

Once you have followed the above three steps your FSX installation should be back in its state before the
demo was installed.

Hi guys,

my apologies, we should have included uninstallation instructions in the manul. Dain is correct though about those two steps. Obviously, if you have any other ORBX products installed you don't want to delete the entire ORBX directory, just the FTX_NA folder inside of it.

The Pacifc Northwest demo needs to be installed via the autoinstaller into the main FSX directory to work properly. However, we don't overwrite any default or third-party add-on files during installation.

When you activate North America in FTX Central it makes backup copies of the files we need to replace (primarily autogen textures) and when you switch to Default those get restored to their previous condition. That's why it's important to switch FTX Central to Default prior to deleting any of the ORBX folders.

Have fun exploring the Olympic Peninsula!

Cheers, Holger

Not a problem Holger. Now all I have to do is wait until my piggy bank fills up enough to grab the full installation. Despite the cost, anyone who has ever flown the Pacific Northwest once and then found themselves coming back, over and over again for some reason. . .needs to buy this and discover why it was they enjoyed that first flight so much.

Very Beautiful indeed. Already have had some great scenic moments already. Thank you! :salute:
Wonder if I can get a loan... :icon_lol:
