Have to say less moving parts, yes, but I have to wonder about the hazards associated with Hydrogen Peroxide solutions greater than 68%.
My understanding the solution has to be that high enough to get the benefit from the steam reaction.

Okay, I like the sound of a turbine and blades better... :icon_lol:

Anyway, here's the two seat version undergoing testing as well.
I guess the one seat already has certification in the U.S.
Maybe they should make it round and dimple it like the Mythbuster's car Ken was commenting on in another thread.

Hydrogen Peroxide at such a concentration is deadly simply by making contact with your skin.

If you get 100LL or Jet-A on your skin, you simply walk to the bathroom and wash your hands as soon as you can.

If you get 65% or higher hydrogen peroxide on your skin, your skin will literally melt off the bone until you flood it with water.

If you doubt this, go read up on the horrible ground accidents with the Komet.

No doubts here, Ken.
I still have a copy of Me163 pilot Mano Ziegler's "Rocket Fighter" around here somewhere.
It was a fascinating and often gruesome account of the short lives of many a Komet pilot.
I remember reading it intently, it was a real page turner.
Seems like Jeffery Ethell did a few articles on the Komet as well.

I remember the pilots never wanted to do an aborted landing as it meant instant death as the tanks would collapse on landing.
If they didn't explode, the peroxide "stoff" would vaporize you in your seat. :eek:
 
I looked into it. The Dragonfly runs on a 50% H2O2 solution with additives, commercially known as Perosin.

Then uses a catalyst to provide the steam reaction at the blade tip rockets.
But at that rate though, I would think it would still burn like a you know what if you got it on your skin. :icon_lol:

Hmmm, can also run on Bio-ethanol. Plenty of that around these parts...

Yep, that pretty well sums up the danger of handling concentrated H2O2. Also, H2O2 is not particularly stable, it decomposes into hydrogen and water, so maintaining the proper H2O2 concentration can be problematic.
 
it may not be the solution today, but it does show that people are indeed searching for alternatives, and that's a good thing
