B-52 VC Screens Are Here

we haven't given a figure yet for the cost of this VC. That said, I did say it wouldn't be more than 30 bucks.... (didn't I?)

anyway, it won't be HUGELY expensive.

What amazes me is how damn fast you guys did this. I'm still working on the cross sections for the exterior of one airplane I started around Christmas. Granted, it's off and on work with everything I have going on, but you guys really cranked that out. Well done.:salute:
 
That's not just ANY chick... That is MY wife. (ask Chuck, he will confirm that)....

The reason we were able to expedite the Buff VC is that is was already done in terms of modeling. All it needed was a coat of paint and coding. Easy, relatively speaking that is. We have a ton of models just like that. Ready to go but lacking the code base to go with it. (anyone for a Bone???? FIND A CODER!)

I see the ECS nozzles you are talking about. To me it looks like all that ducting is removable like it is on our H-60's (believe me I hate removing & reinstalling ECS ducting, is a big pain in the hind end). Cause it just looks like they run flexible tubing up to the cockpit with the nozzles on it. Probably held into the overhead with camlocks or screws. It would probably be a task to add that to the cockpit, and I am not sure how much the extra poly's would affect the frame rates. After what happened with the UH-1 we have been trying to be mindful of texture size/polys trying to keep stuff in a good range for everyone. Is the reason I ran it through NYC cause I was trying to bring it to its knee's. :icon_lol:

The Poly count may be an issue on those missing details but couldn't they be added by a 3 dimensional texture effect?
 
People. Please don't take this the wrong way but the model is done. Finito. That's it. If you want to add more, it will COST more. That kind of thing adds time and therefore, money. Even though it might seem small to you, it's more work for us.

Now, though I am certain some of you would like us to go further than we already have, I am also more than certain that most don't want the price to be high(er).

So, that said, if you can get different 40 people to say YES to adding the piping and ECS vents and thereby raising the price to 30 bucks, we will add them as well as some other missing stuff. Otherwise, I'm sorry but it's not going to happen.

It needs to be said that if those 40 people don't buy the product, I (and Darrell) will be seriously upset. (and I might sue! A joke)

FYI, the model goes into final weathering now.

Hi Colin,

Thats a big shame really, I always thought that it's the little extra detail that makes something more special. Personally I cannot really see how it would add millions more polys to add the ducting in. If there are only default FSX basic functions happening in the cockpit there's not going to be much hogging the FPS. Unless anyone is planning on bombing NYC in FSX with their Buff I can't see what difference testing it there makes!!

$30 is too steep for just a VC with no complex gauges for fuel management etc.

Just my 2c, I just thought I'd point out the ducting for two reasons:

1. in case someone forgot being the modeller for the AlphaSim B-52.
2. Because I would like to see the VC being the best it can be.

Hi Century, there are already a LOT of polys in the VC. I don't have the # in front of me at the moment, but I can tell you it is already quite high. It's hard to judge from the screenshots, but every needle,switch, gauge housing, seat details, etc start to add up in a cockpit as complex as the Buff.

I coded the gauges on a core i7 920 oc'd to 3.4 ghz, 6 GB RAM and running with REX (Real Weather Xtreme) activated, FPS did tend to go down with clouds combined with dense autogen, so it's probably best we try to keep the polys down as much as possible to allow for all the different systems out there.

Now is the time to point out other "errors" or "inconsistencies" or stuff that's MIA. After all, if I'm going back in there.... (don't go crazy or anything...)

I feel like a bit of a horse's ass for chiming in here... I promised Darrell scans of some B-52H materials, but school, hardware issues, and other commitments have kept me from delivering. I'm genuinely sorry about that, Darrell.

That said, there a few issues with the model that I've seen from the screenshots.

1) It looks like the lower throttle grips aren't connected the the larger grips as they should be.
2) The Throttle Gate is missing
3) The copilot's stabilizer trim wheel is too small, it should be the same diameter as curved housing to which it is mounted.
4) The trim indicator is missing from the copilot's side
5) The engine Fire Shutdown Switches look like they might need tweaking. (it's hard to tell from the screenshot)
6) By the looks of it, the forward portion of the center pedestal forward of the throttle housing isn't long enough, but I'm guessing that's too much work to correct as this point.
7) The EVS displays are too oval. They should be squared off more, with smaller fillets in the corners.
8) No thermal curtains?
9) The ECS ducting and gaspers are missing (already noted)

It's hard to tell what else without specific pictures of other areas.

Darrell, if you read this, I'm working on the scanner as we speak, and I'll try to get something useful to you this evening. I'm sure you've already done the bulk of the work, so perhaps the EVS symbology might be more useful now? Let me know.

Far be it from me to criticise your design choices...I know that it's always a compromise, and it's entirely your prerogative what to model and what not to model. But why ask for issues and missing stuff if you have no intention of fixing it?

I can't address the UV mapping aspect of it, but at least a few items on that list certainly aren't difficult changes to make insofar as the modeling itself is concerned. Fixing the size of the trim wheel? Changing the proportion of the Fire Shutoff switches?

I'd happily take you up on the offer to make the changes myself if you're serious about sharing the source files.
