RE: Need some work on your vintage V-12 engine?

Average overhaul times;

The Merlin: 3 to 4 months.
The Allison: 2 to 3 months.
The Griffon: 6 to 9 months.

:jawdrop:

Prolly cuz this stuff isn't stock any more and they have to machine all the components from scratch! :mixedsmi:

The wife's been on my case to get that Merlin off the dining room table, so I may as well get it overhauled. :d

i seem to remember someone putting one in an old chevy or something. i was really hoping for a burnout but no such luck

3 Allison's on a pulling tractor....holy cow.

Back in the early 90's, it was right around $50,000 for a Merlin engine overhaul. Within the last month, I heard a Mustang owner/pilot stating that it is now right around $100,000-$120,000! It really speaks volumes to how much one needs to care for these engines, and get the most life out of them. And luckily, places like Fantasy of Flight, have gone to great lengths to buy up all of the Allison engines they find, from people involved in tractor-pulling and other sports, so that they aren't just simply run until they are blown up, and can be available to warbirds for generations to come.

My uncle knows someone who restores 109 airframes, these guys can restore the engine...perfect, I'm gonna have my very own 109.

Still need to dig one out though. A "K" would be nice...

There's a reason you have to be Tom Cruise wealthy to afford a P-51!

$120k for a simple overhaul is just the tip of the iceberg.

For one of the Continentals in my 310R an overhaul would cost between $20,000 and $30,000.

They aren't cheap!
