....This link will give you any state and most towns/villages where John Law might be lurking around. I checked out a few locations such as my home town and a few adjoining ones. I was surprised by some locations and not others. Comments are given about the validity of the speed trap. Most are posted a few years back. So I can't comment one way or another if they're still shooting radar or not at Such and Such St.
A friend of mine has a radar detector and keeps it constantly on. It chirps, warbles, and makes flatulence sounds which becomes annoying after awhile. I'm not sure why he keeps it on or installed since he does drive within the speed limit. Jus' wondering, does anyone else keep a radar detector on and has it saved you a few times?

There's no such thing as a "speed trap", as in - the police "trapping" you into speeding.

If you speed and get caught - well, that speaks for itself.
If you don't speed, the chances of being pulled over for speeding is just about nil.
 
I use a GPS-based warning device (radar detectors are ultra-illegal in Europe) which gives me the fixed speedcam locations and the possible lurking spots as well. It's paid for itself at least three or four times over. It cost about as much as one minor infraction, which round here can go up to E90.00.

There's maps with speed camera locations for general GPS navigation devices, no need for a special device.

I drive so fast the police don't bother trying to chase me down. I once was doing 45 in a 25 zone, shot right by a police car...the officer had his radar gun out and was taking speeds. As I zoomed by, he just gave me the nod and went back to gunning cars going by. Deb just shook her head and said "I can't believe that that just happened." I have never had a speeding ticket...not that I have not deserved about a billion of them....and I have never had an accident either.

Now, I know where I can and can not put the speedo past the legal limit...and in residential areas, I always do the limit or less....less if school is out and kids are out and about. But give me a stretch of country road and little traffic....and the speed limit just becomes a recommendation that I don't take.

Cheaper. I don't need at "How'd you get to..." GPS because to be frank, 85% of my motoring is to work and back, and most of the rest to places I know. But it's useful to have something that deedles at you if you're thinking about other things!

Sounds pretty familiar. German motorways are the thing, though. The last time we went, I was at 215Km/h - about 130 mph - before my wife woke up and started screaming! You need a car that can do it for real though - a lot might have a theoretical top speed up around there, but judder and shake when you try it.

Well, my phone is GPS capable, so no extra cost involved.
Sometimes it's a nice and useful feature to have.

No offense monsieur, but I hate people who take the Autobahn for a racing strip. Going faster than 180 or 190 kph is unnecessary, especially since you're also making other drivers uncomfortable if you zoom past them like a maniac or coming on at 200+ kph from behind.

No, never had a want or need for those pesky devices. Old ladies here in town get behind me & blow their horns because I drive so slow.

While you are right in principal, your comment suggests you haven't dealt with small town cops in the midwest. You can and will get pulled over, ticketed and possibly arrested for whatever they feel like. :icon_lol:
 
I had to laugh out loud about the laser guided missle comment.. that was pretty funny and makes a great mental picture. Your idea would work except I don't think traffic gun lasers are the same classification used for weapons targeting. Classification of lasers used for that are even above medical grade lasers, and all that stuff is secret squirrel. I know around here you laze somebody with the turret and they have to go to medical and get biopsied, checked for burns, etc.. turns into a major deal.
 
I drive between 35,000 and 40,000 miles a year. I have not gotten a speeding ticket in over 20 years. I use to "speed" all the time. (fighter pilot mentality) Now I drive between 73-75 on the Interstates and have going through hundreds of speed traps at those speeds.

I find that on some crowded Interstates you have to speed or get extremely frustrated. There are two speeds on some sections of Interstates, 75 & 60-65. If you drive at 70 in the left lane, you will be pushed by the 75 mph people. If you get in the right lane you will be forever stuck benind the 60 mph guy as the faster cars stream by you. So, in these cases I get in the fast lane and pace the others.

I use a GPS. Currently a Garmin 700 series. I love it. Great for finding addresses. Just watch it. It can get you lost if you don't pay attention.
 
My town was listed as a speed trap, but my experience here is that you'd have to really be going to get a ticket in town. The next little town up the road though is known locally as one and they'll pull you over and ticket you for anything they can. Also be prepared to have your car searched while they have you stopped. Those guys just keep going until they have something they can write a ticket for.
