P-40B/C

Anyone know if a P-40B or C version was ever done for the Pacific? Had a squiz through the American aircraft lineup in the Add-On Archive, but all seem to be 'E' versions or later.
Cheers :)

P-40 B

Yes, there are a couple of P-40Bs available. I think that you can find them over at simviation.com or flightsim.com.

1. Kwagmyer's P-40B. It has a lot of skins available for it too. It hails from the very early days of CFS 2, but it has a usable VC and it was a mainstay of mine for quite a while.

2. Bruno Duffort's P-40B. This is set up as a Flying Tiger. Not many skins available for it due to the restrictions in the readme file. It's a very usable aircraft though and it came as freeware along with a K-21, Bufallo and a Ki-27. They were all intended as a payware CBI package, but were eventually released as freeware. The Ki 21 is still about the best one out there, so get all four on the same page at either flightsim or simviation.

3. The old F1 payware P-40B. Not sure if it is available anywhere anymore, but lots of skins available for it and several updates during its life. Until Thorson's B model came along, she was my main squeeze in the Pacific.

4. Bruce Thorson's shareware P-40B. I don't think this one is available anymore either. Several skins for it, but while it is the most modern of the Bs programing wise, it never seemed to get a very wide distribution. There is an FS 9 version of it too.

A. F-1 P-40
B. Thorson's P-40B

This may be redundant info already mentioned, but I have Bruno's P-40B, skinned for AVG in Chinese markings. I also have Flight Deck's P-40B, skinned likewise. Both are very good aircraft, I prefer Flight Deck's for dogfighting, it's just an itty bitty more, well, better all around.

Hope this tid-bit of useless info helps.

First off, thanks for all the replies guys, I appreciate it. :)

But some questions.

It would appear that Bruce Thorson's P-40B is the version to get. And while RobH has done some stunning skins for it, they are just skins. Not the complete aircraft.

So ...... where do I find the complete aircraft?? Doesn't seem to be around. However in the link to the skins thead that Rami provided, there was mention of Bearcat having done a CFS2 conversion of Bruce's FS9 model of the P-40. And looking through Bearcat's offerings in the Archive there is a couple of conversion files.

Best yet Bearcat mentions the name of the zip for Bruce's FS9 version over at FlightSim! :jump:

So all I have to do now is put Bruce's original file and Bearcat's conversion together, and hopefully I'll have a fully functional P-40B. :)

Again thanks for all the helpful suggestions!

Hiya Rami,

Thanks I saw those and have d/loaded them. But don't I still need Thorson's original Hawk81.zip?

Pips,

The converted model file would overwrite the original even if you used it. Just get the converted model and you'll be flying with the best of 'em.

Leroy's P-40E

Now, with all this said about Bruce Thorson's P-40B, wait until you see and fly Leroy's upcoming P-40E. While not a B model, it will still knock your socks off. It also has super frame rates and great detail as well as a newly made and very accurate flight model.

Here are a couple of threads concerning the upcoming P-40C/Kittyhawk:

I don't mean to sound critical but this version of the P-40 with the "hot" mdls is unflyable on my stick. I don;t know what the authors had in mind but this is like an F-86 with Vulcan miniguns. I'm not a rivet counter by any means but appreciate a modicum of reality. I hope there are replacement air, .dp, and mdls for this plane. I got the P-40s mostly for the Russian skins, I look forward to a little real combat. I'm not a bad pilot but when I have 5 out of 8 He-111s flying along in flames at one time, something is wrong.

Perhaps you are using an older FM. My CFS 2 version of the P-40B, if anything acts a bit undepowered and seems realistic enough. I can outdive a Zero, but I sure can't outclimb or out turn him. Bearcat is usually very careful about these details when posting an aeroplane. Push comes to shove, try the attached FMs. Perhaps one of these will help you out.

If this is the conversion by Bearcat there are 3 airfiles and cfg files in it so you can choose the way you want it to fly.My guess is you have the hot FM in it.I had Bearcat tone down the FM's and cfg files so that's why there are 3 of them. The way I have mine setup makes it one of the best and I used it in my AVG and CATF.

Sorry about your HE-111's, but it sounds like you found some relief in the updates. What the original authors -- that would be me for the first conversion release -- had in mind was speed, quicks and firepower to my liking. Hope that solves the riddle. Told you guys before, its just a fantasy playset for me. Heh, those that can, do... :icon_lol:

Tonybones and others,

I took up your challenge and made a stab at it by using Bearcat's airfiles and adjusting them to provide realistic performance rather than using a high-jacked variant I had before. I made sure that the P-40b engine was rated for 1,040 horsepower, and the P-40c is rated at 1,100hp. The P-40b is significantly lighter, slightly faster, and a better climber. I also made her slightly more maneuverable. The P-40c by most accounts was the weakest of the bunch, so I made her a bit sluggish.

These may need a bit of adjustment in roll rate and turn radius, but I'll leave it for you guys to tell me if and where I went off the rails.
