What is Horizon if not a documentary? Then there is the recent Brian Cox series on the Solar System. It is hard to monitor from this side of the planet of course. My memory of the Beeb is 5 years out of date, so it may well have taken a nosedive since I was last there.
BBC Canada is a joke however and I often send them e-mails complaining about the content, they have a standard response. It mainly consists of dreary comedy series and home buying shows which are shown here on domestic channels anyway, then there is the necessary Canadian content which is forced upon them by the govnmnt.
I wonder is BBC America the same?
It has dumbed down significantly in the last five years I'm sad to say. There is still the occasional great program and they still do Wildlife very well (when they do it at all) but there is very little original content commisioned these days. Top Gear is famous around the world but even that is on the way out and so much of it is scripted and predictable now as they have run out of things to do with it. Even Clarkson has admitted that. I'm afraid we get an awful lot of Celebrity Cooking, Celebrity Dancing, Celebrity Quiz Shows, Celebrity Weight Loss etc etc. That always used to be on the other Channels but the BBC has fallen foul to providing what they think the majority wants instead of trying to educate, enlighten and inform which was there original purpose. They do still do Radio very well though, thank god! I'm listening to the Radio on my TV right now - Tottenham verses Arsenal - a crucial game :d
