Way to go Misco$oft, you've impressed some of those cannibus embalmed Gatesian engrams into your programmers!

The stock G4M2 Betty in CFS2 does not have wing tanks in the .dp.

a forum member asked me about my recent acquisition of a .dp for the Betty. This updated .dp turns the plane into the correct Flying Crematory and also corrects the inaccurately murderous tail gunner.

This file is located at Flightsim.com in the CFS2 MISC. section. I cannot give a link, all links I try and capture just go to the homepage. Go to the SEARCH feature for CFS2 Misc. In the TEXT name box type in "Betty", the list will be three items, this .dp is the third. Or PM me with an emial and I'll be glad to mail the file.

Bones, thanks for the heads-up. I needed a good corrected .dp file for the Betty, had one but lost it when my external HD went stupid last year.

a few months ago one of the guys posted a text edit for the .dp for the Betty, I got it someplace around here too. This .dp is good, they blow up real good!

Thanks again mate. That 20mm man in the tail/dorsal was driving me nuts. I mean that big gun must have been a bitch to aim and fire accurately, and had limited ammo.

I like my G4M's to fly in formation and behave like proper medium/heavy bombers should - and that makes the return fire MURDEROUS and extremely non-historical.

Now I can get in a bit closer and set those wing tanks burning merrily.........

The method that the US used durring the war when attacking any large group of enemy aircraft was an over head or high side attack if possible aming for the wing or canopy on the Betty. In the pacific when attacking the Betty the ida was to hit the wing tank or kill the pilot.This also keept the US fighters away from the stern 20mm gun.This is the form of attack that was used when attacking enemy bombers or large group of enemy fighters.The pilot that had the hight had the advantage.
 
Why don't you have the SG Betty?It's a much better plane.I haven't used the stock Betty for years.

Formerly I went into the original .dp and changed the 20mm effectiveness numbers to .30 cal, and set those for the innacurate 3.2 many .dp writers set for this round. That leveled the playing field to something resembling realistic. Finally I also stopped QC and missions/campaigns with Bettys and substituted Nells.With the new .dp I can now bring back the Flying Lighters.

As i said, the original configurtion of this plane is what happens when you mix Thai stick and computer programming.

I rarely make anything on bombers but a stern attack due to the step backwards the flat screen monitors have taken as far as technology, which is why I have 5 CRTs stashed for artwork in the future. I have 3 flatscreens and on them until you are right on top of the given plane they are mere stick figures. It's an entirely different war on CRT.

Many newbies, as I once was, and still am in many ways, are not aware of Stuart Green's Betty. I have both. Morton did some really nice skins for Green's, I have many unique skins for the stock Betty(orange trainer, night bomber, surrender markings). I rarely fly any bomber missions/campaigns anyway unless it's converted to a heavy/night fighter, I'm a bit of a fighter jockey. In this sense Green and the stock(now) make nice targets and presents an accurate challenge to splashing them.

Tonybones, I can do high side passes using a flat screen.If I can do it anyone can.Now, I don`t always hit what I ame at but sometimes I do get lucky.Like you said it does make a differance.
 
I've always fixed the DP's on my planes to be as accurrate as possible.That includes the guns and fuel tanks.Most of the Japanese planes have the wing fuel tanks that I have but just need to be tweaked.I have 3 Judy's and 2 ( MD Judy and Silvia's Judy ) have the fuel tanks in the wing,the other which is the latest one ( Thicko ) I'm working on.

I not really a fighter jockey but enjoy flying all types of planes.So I guess I'm not a lonewolf like you Tony.Online we fly alot of co-op missions with fighters and bombers,if it's carrier ops I will chose either one depending what the mission is.Usually a fighter first to defend the fleet and than a Dauntless or an Avenger to attack the target.I know I can depend on others to protect me as they know they can depend on me when I fly escort and your wingman is very important as we watchout for each other.It's alot of fun.

Bob, in the little city bordering the USAF Museum is an electronics surplus shop, I saw this enormous 19 inch HP CRT and snatched it. The thing weighs in at a good 100 lbs. I fire that thing up and the streetlights dim. I need to make a place for it. I connected this notebook to it and in CFS2 I'm all over the place. You can make a side, front, top, bottom, any attack you want. I write horror fiction and illustrate my work with PSP 7.2 and with another graphics program I apply a filter I came up with gives "pastel/watercolor" appearance, and want to keep a good CRT around for that type thing.

I've been flying some little campaigns as a Japanese, and in dogfighting I usually attack from any angle. For bombers I make a stern attacka nd pour fire into n engine and slow the thing down. From there I do as Iaan Fleming once said, like a man with a fish. I peel the skin, I takes the bones out, I eat the fish.

I have a 17 inch HP flatscreen I swapped business out of, I'm gonnaa see how it performs.

Talon, I'm fairly good with setting my gun effectiveness in a .dp right now. Many Bf-109s with "12.7" mm are actually 13.2mm, for example, the guns and rounds at the AF Museum are really monsters, I usually give them a little edge over .50s. Russian exploding rounds are hideously effective, I'm researching armory and ballistics on the various A/C cannon used by the Soviets. Another thing is does given caannon round explode on contaact or after penetration? The Germans were the latter, Japanese were the former, things like that I'm literate in. Doing loadouts is another one I know nothing of, I need to spend more time with CFS2. I have the ICARUS TB-3 Soviet heavy bomber. It has optional loadouts for CFS2 of an I-16 under each wing. It could carry an additional 3 I-15s on top each wing and center fusalage. I think tht's cool, I'd like to lern loadouts and be ble to do that.

I wouldn't mind a little co-op/competative flying, just don't have the connection or time right now.

FURTHER INFO ON SETTING GUN EFFECTIVENESS

I have been following this thread with some interest. Can anyone give pointers as to how to try to set the guns to near realistic settings. Such info as possible suggested settings for the .50,30,20mm, where to set, etc. would be great to know. I am trying to put together a guide for myself on all these kind of topics and am also interested in tweaking my aircraft. I like the idea of standardization amongst players so when (and if) a game server gets up we will have some expectation of results while on-line.

I found the answer to my own posted question!!:icon_lol: Killing some time:sleep: I found that over at Calebs site under NOTAMS, then "weapons spedifications" there is a chart on the suggested settings for just about every gun utilized in this sim.:applause: Actually forgot about this great reference site!
