Meet my silver metalic lady.

Oh baby...

Just when I thought that my days of flying Japanese stuff was over...

I GET A NEW TOY!!

How do you say thanks in Japanese????

Hello everybody.

I hope you enjoy Ki-87.

She looks a bit matte than I would like her to be.
CFS2 can not handle ambient reflection (mirror effect) on metalic surface like most recent 3D games.
From the view of artistic expression, I really think of going to FSX...
Other than that, GMAX allows me higher potential of modeling and painting.
It's some surprise that a decade old programme is still being played.

BTW, I had to edit binaries to convert the mdl from FS2k4 to CFS2.
Also, I had to work around strange errors, probably due to GMAX+MakeMDL bug.
There could be CTD problem.
If you have any, plz let me know.

Cheers

Q

I do have one question Igacci,

I took her up for a spin last night. When I reached about 10,000 feet, after running full throttle and WEP, the engine suddenly cut to idle power. I checked my joystick to make sure it was plugged in and stuff... is there a way to engage the high-altitude equipment??

Thank you!

It looks great to fly and to make missions trying to intecept the B29 and its escort in late 1945 and beyond. A great addition for a 1946-47 Pacafic war addon!

Thank you again.

Just remember in this Sim we can pretend we are flying how it was meant to to be flown in a mission. In FX we cannot do that.

Hi DD,
It may mean that you have 'cooked' your engine, WEP should only be used for short bursts. Try the same height, full power but no WEP, see what happens. Also have you got icing conditions set in the weather section to about 10,000ft? If so then this maybe the problem. If so you can either turn it off, lift icing ceiling or allocate a key for carb heat and put that on.

Thanks for pointing that out Shessi. The water-methanol injection of the Fw-190 A/F series only had a life of ten hours before the engine was burned out. Anything more than short bursts would cook that puppy. In better days I raced semi-professional drag racing in Outlaw Class. I had a 1972 Road Runner that had a blower(supercharger, GMC 671) and nitro injection. The nitro shortened engine life, but nothing got past me. a local sheriff challenged me one day in his cruiser for a little unauthorized sport in his Impala. I shut him down at 145 mph, he blew a transmission line at 95 mph an' had some esplainin' to do to the head sheriff.

Ki-87 is a nice plane.

Igacci, I found the plane a pleasure. Thank you. Some of my observations:

1. The plane needs nose-up trimming seriously, which is not a problem. Once that's set, she flies like a dream. I liked the heavy armament particularly.
2. I did not experience the "fade" you mention in the readme in VC. I zeroed the gunsight in panel cfg. is all I needed for any views.
3. The plane has a quite decided speed problem, I cannot keep up with a B-17 G, so I switched over to dogfighting Hellcats and Corsairs in it, I'm going to try my hand at a P-51 next. Very good dogfighter.
4. The finish on the bare aluminum as you say is not shiny but it is a quite accurate representation of oxidized aluminum which happens over time and particularly in a tropical environment. No problem there my friend.

I wanted to ask you about the panels for the Bf-109 Zwilling bomber and the Ginga fighter in your Hanger. The panels were available at One G Pilots Club, which no longer exists. Do you have the panels and is there anyway I could get them if you do?

I'm looking forward to your Ju-388.

Thank you again.

Hello everybody

DD:
I've never experienced sudden engine cut while flight test, running full throttle and WEP.
It's not intened design at all, anyway.
As Shessi sugested, it can be weather related.
I would like to know the situation. Altitude, speed, weather setting etc.
From the view of design, it's interesting for simulating fragile engines!

Tony:
1) Pitch trim
I too recognized the nose-up trimming is needed (means nose goes down without trimming).
I tested with flight test panel by Jerry Beckwith and confirmed that the initial trim setting was always set at negative just after the palne was loaded in the game. Futher test showed that by adjusting trim to positive (around +0.1 was shown on the panel) fixed nose down. So that I think it can be a peculiarity of this aircraft and left it as it is.
The same is applied to trimming for roll. The engine generates strong counter torque effect. You need positve aileron trimming to level the wings.

2) Speed
Cannot keep up with B-17? Will you tell me at what altitude it happend?
I'll check it.
There must be horse power and prop efficiency tuning needed.

3) Zwilling and Ginga panel
I'm afraid I too lost his panel when I upgraded the PC.
Stupid me, I erased most of add on aircraft.
I even erased the most recent source file of Ju-388, though I had a back up copy of 2nd recent source file.
Too bad I can't reach him anymore. I'm not sure what made him close his web site so suddenly.

Cheers

Pitch is not a problem, I have an 1-16 does the same, and once I trim out Yashico's N1K2-J with the gondola guns, it flies perfect.

The speed problem is at 5000 feet and seems to worsen as you gain altitude. It's speed is perfect for dogfighting.

There are many great websites for FS and CFS now closed. I regret not getting into this in time to hit the Big Globe site with all the Japanese pnels for different aircrft, but Morton aand the others have served us quite well.
