Well I also remember Robert Randazzo (PMDG team lead, owner?) making a huge post about the ACES closure, and what possible future MSFS would have. In his huge post he detailed meetings that he either had notes too, or went to (if I recall correctly he was called to actually meet with the team). He said in those meetings that at that point they were looking to a Windows Live based solution, and that MS wanted to basically screen & control what the third party dev's were doing. Basically like the Windows Approved stamp for the add-ons, and charge a % of whatever the add-on dev gets for the sim. I personally think that the ESP program that was being worked on had a lot of hope (as long as it was what it was supposed to be). I personally kind of hope that there isn't a new simulator coming. I think there have been huge leaps and strides in fixing FSX. While it is not perfect I think we are for the most part at a point of hardware catching up, and things finally getting better. I really do not wish to start all over again with being disappointed after installing the CD and it looks nothing like what was promised. It took me a few years, and even then still a lot of money to get a computer that I could crank the graphics up on. If the rumblings of this new simulator are true though I wish them the best, and I will watch it from a distance.

Am I the only one that remembers Microsoft's announcement of the new title last year? I must be. It was only a couple months after the official closing of ACES. They didn't name the new product or mention a specific franchise, but they did specifically tell us they were developing new flight software for Windows Live.

Many ACES workers also hinted after that they were working on a new flight project for microsoft.

You are correct...I read the posts and even Phil was here with a mention of this once too !

Any ideas where we will hear about any potential news first?

Yes. I've got a few ideas, but you won't like them.

Tradition dictates that a year to a few years from now a couple screenshots will turn up and maybe an official website hosting them.

Information would never be officially released here, but you can get it here as fast as anywhere. People here get ahold of information and link us to it so fast it makes my head spin sometimes.

I heard some folks went into the Playtest lab recetly to check some things out. :)

E3 would be a good guess on public info. I wouldn't imagine it's simulation based like FSX, but my fingers are crossed.

I don't believe it will be an Xbox game. Windows Live, maybe, but not XBox. What's the point of making arcade civilian simulator for casual gamer?

It's just my speculation though.

Joysticks (theoretically), Keyboard etc can be used on an Xbox... Who says it would be arcade? Xbox is touted as a media center not just a "Game Console"...

Anyone who owns an Xbox (especially the Super Elite version) might see where I am coming from...

ahh E3 thats like a whole 2 months away :/
I dont see why they would leave their whole userbase in the dark like this it's just causing more and more people to switch to X-plane

My opinion on the LIVE aspect of it is that it will use a marketplace similar to the appstore where addon developers publish their addons and get them approved by Microsoft. This way they get a comission on payware sales. It could also explain why Aerosoft has shown interest in it's own simulator as alot of their revenue is from publishing other's products.

I know that. There is even HOTAS system based on Saitek x45 for Xbox360. I'm not talking about technical side, but about average console gamer. I believe there is much bigger market for simulations on PC, than consoles. Of course it's just my speculation, but even Gajin ported their Birds of Prey to PC. They've released an exclusive DLC for PC only.

I'm not a console hater, there are many console games I've played, and loved. I just don't see how a true simulation would compete on consoles. There must be a reason why Oleg, ED, Thunderworks, Neoqb, Laminar Research are making PC exclusives only.

But the flightsim wouldn't have to be directly marketed at the average console gamer... It could be thrown at the Flightsim enthusiast who already owns an Xbox or, perhaps, in the hopes that they would invest in one. The Xbox 360 series are certainly cheap enough now, cheaper than a reasonable upgrade to get FSX running smoothly on an already decent PC. One only has to look at the cost of a new high end Graphics card to get those magical FPS numbers that really do not mean much as opposed to the cost of an Xbox Super Elite, granted one would then have to invest (theoretically - driver depending) in a whole new batch of joysticks but still the math is favourable.

Historically I have always been something of a Console hater, I have been putting off buying one for my son for a while... But I find myself noting the power of these consoles and as much as I hate to acknowledge the fact; I think they could do a fine job of the next MSFS series.

Don't get me wrong I am not for FS via Xbox, I do not even own one (as mentioned above) and I actually believe that the PC is still streets ahead at supporting (I say supporting not neccesarily rendering or running) a new Flightsim. I am just putting it out there... Its more than a viable proposition for many reasons.

Do I hear... Xbox and Live in one sentence?

Pretty sure LIVE is just the name of the online multiplayer service and has nothing to do with platform. Much better than that gamespy crap we have with fsx

Supposedly future online versions of LIVE will be much like steam.
