Calling all Music inclined people..

i am trying to figure out the name of a program that takes music you play into a mic onto a computer and converts it into sheet music..

my friend wants to know what it is so see can see about getting it.

thank you

Ryan

PS yes i have tryed google but its being google and giving me all the of the things that are similar but not what i want lol

If there is such a program, I've never heard of it...

Technically, it should be possible to analyze any input "single note" to determine its frequency and translate that to a graphical display on a staff, but how to do so quickly enough, not to mention determine the scale being used would be a nightmare.

Just thinking of an algorithim to sort out the individual notes of a chord is giving me a headache!

I have never heard of one that converts recorded instruments to a score but there are lots that will take a MIDI instrument input (keyboard, MIDI guitar, MIDI wind instrument etc.) and output a musical score.

Most sequencer/digital studio packages can do that these days and the best known pure score writing software is called 'Sibelius'.

i don't know of such software but i suppose it does exist because there are harmonizers and "intelligent pitch shifters" that can take a series of notes or chords that you play and determine what key you are playing in.

While we are on a simular subject, does anyone know if there is a program to load your karaoke disks on to the computer and use the computer for a show (preferably freeware). I have tons of disks and am always afraid of scratches, etc.
BTW, some of them are super cdg (I have a Cavs player).

Thanks in advance

Bob
