Restoring The Default Flight

An-225

Charter Member
Is there any way to restore the default flight? I have saved mine in a cold and dark state for use with the L-39, but I can't seem to start up certain planes (turboprops in particular, like Piglet's An-32 or the default C-208) and I'd like to revert.

If only there were a way to load a flight into the UI without making it the default, allowing a change of airport while keeping the cold and dark state...

Thanks in advance.

Not sure I understand the problem? I have around 50 different saved flights and can just choose whichever one I need for that particular sim session. The `default` doesn't load automatically unless you have unchecked the Show Opening Screen on startup, but this has nothing to do with the default flight.

If that is the problem then open FSX .cfg and change the STARTUP section line
SHOW_OPENING_SCREEN=0
to
SHOW_OPENING_SCREEN=1

and this will load the initial GUI from where you can create or load ANY flight. All the `default flight` checkbox does is load that into the GUI to start with. It does not require you to accept the selections for that sim session, it just preloads in the background to save a bit of time on starting the sim proper.

Well, the main problem is that turboprop aircraft don't work with my cold and dark flight, and I'd like to revert to the default flight but I have no clue how to.

My second line of text is just me thinking out aloud. I'd like a way to load a scenario into the UI without the flight starting up, which would allow you to load "cold and dark" or "up and running" while still being able to adjust the parameters of the flight. But I don't think that's possible with FSX.

Just start a flight with the default Baron. Start the plane with CTRL+E, ensuring the mixture is at 100%. Then shut down the plane from the magnetos (set them to OFF), and shut down all of the electrical systems (battery, generators, lights etc...). Once the plane is totally OFF, save your flight as default flight.

Your turbopros don't want to start certainely because in your default flight, you have set the mixture to 0%. Save a new default flight with the mixture at 100% lke above, it should work.

That is precisely what I do. So it is not only possible, but easy. But first you MUST have the sim open to the initial GUI, from whence you can make whatever selections - and alterations to those selections - as you like.

Example: I have a default Cessna at a default field with a default weather selection during daylight and I call it `Cessna at LFBL Spring`.
This is currently set as my default flight, so when the sim first loads this is the flight it offers me - But I can change any or all of the parameters to select a different aircraft, location, or even weather and time. IT DOES NOT LOAD.

I also have a second flight saved called `Cessna at LFBL Spring - Cold and Dark`. No guesses for the diffference, but it enables me to choose either a `engine running` or `cold and dark` scenario to suit my needs for that particular session.

From the opening menu, simply selecting `SELECT A FLIGHT` from the GUI opens the flight menu system, so I can choose either of these, or any of the fifty others, for that particular session from the MY SAVED FLIGHTS selection.

In either case, making the change I talked about above means that NO flight LOADS until I TELL it to. And you have every opportunity to tweak, change modify or alter to suit whatever want or need you have.

Is there any way to restore the default flight?

Open your FSX.CFG (make a backup copy first) and look for the line beginning with "SITUATION=". Delete everything on that line after the "=" sign. Save and start FSX - you should now be in the default Trike over Friday Harbor.

Thank you for that, Trisager. :p:

Snave, I appreciate your help, but despite the fact that my simulator starts in the GUI, I can find no way to simply load the saved flight parameters into it.

"Load" merely gives me the option to choose "Fly Now" and I can't see any other options that will let me load a flight.

Then you haven't SAVED the scenario to be recalled later. From the swirly-aircraft menu, create a flight - any flight you like but I recommend a default plane - then SAVE it, giving it a name you can use to recall it later. Now from the Free Flight menu click `LOAD` and the new flight should be available for selection.

If it is not, this is indicative of a permissions issue with your Operating System and that needs to be addressed first.
