module removal

Hey guys,

has anyone ever removed a module before? I had this stupid module for RWATC, and I'm tired of it prompting me on startup. I removed the obvious files but I'm still prompted. Anyone?

Don't know what it is, but add on modules or programs are initiated through the DLL.xml or EXE.xml files and I would check these to see if any entry needs to be removed. XML files will open with any plain text editor, such as Notepad. Back up the original prior to editing.

I actually tried to find EXE.XML the other day to manually add AIcarriers and I couldn't find it. Any ideas where?

What program is calling it up?

Go check some INI files for call out ...

or some start.ini files.

The other solution is to install crapcleaner and run it .... since you've obvioulsy removed parts of a program, cc should find the blance of the stuff and ask you if you want it deleted.

It's not a program with any kind of registry information, it's just a multiplayer module for FSX.

The exe.xml file should reside in the same folder as your fsx.cfg and dll.xml. If I recall correctly, it's not created by default, however. If you don't have it, then it's not being used and therefore nothing to worry about.

And what part of my comment about crapcleaner didn't you understand?

CC doesn't just do registry stuff. If you're removing software manually, cc will find what's left over and get rid of it.

I couldn't find it for my Ai carriers install, but apparently it is there to try to start that one module. I get a popup every time i start FSX asking where it is.

Some modules/gauges also get written to the FSX.cfg. Take a look under the header [Trusted].

The TRUSTED section of fsx.cfg just indicates that a module or gauge has been granted permission to run in FSX by the user. It's not the code that actually makes the gauge or module run. You can have an entry in the trusted section for a module or gauge that you've uninstalled; it makes no difference to the sim.
