Nifty 50s Jet Pilot Lounge

going to try and do a 2059nm flight in my hunter which has a max range of 1800nm. I might have to get out and push for a while.

I'm using Cal Classic's Kai Tak along with most of their other back dated scenery. I like my FS in the 50s ;)
 
Just finished the first leg in the Argentinian Pulqui. Darn it's got some itty bitty fuel tanks....
 
Stories? Okay. As I was landing in Bali last night a KLM Convair 340 pulled onto the runway as I was just a couple of seconds from touching down. I had just enough time to slide the Pulqui to the right a bit and get around him as I was committed to landing at that point. Maybe next time I'm landing offline, I need to get a hold of the tower so they'll know I'm coming in. Sure glad that there wasn't any windsocks in front of me. I'm pretty sure that Juan Peron wouldn't have been a happy camper if I'd have bent his new jet.

Can't say enough about this ALPHASIM P-80 Shooting Star.

It won't get out of it's own way, but I can set it down in just about any sort of windage and not use up more than a half a mile of runway,,,,even less.

Bounces well, dives well, I don't think you can overspeed the thing, but man is it slow.

This aircraft is my suggestion to anyone that's not a handy jet pilot or especially a first jet flight.

I remembered chosing it for a leg in the last RTW because it was a safe bet for me on a wing I was needed to fly. The F-86 that flew baton on that leg could have tied a rope to my plane and towed it faster than I could fly it flat out.

Overall I still like the bird because it's so friendly and easy to manage cockpit tasks as well. just enough NAV equipment and a fine AP panel that hides till you need it then pops right up at eye level yet not in the way.

It's getting phenominal fuel per hour rates because it only weighs about the same as the tractor of a average size semi rig.....and that's with it loaded full of fuel

A hand full of paint jobs right out of the box too that range from 1947 model based in Fairbanks, AK right up to a fancy paint job for the Air National Guard in Kansas,,,,,could be fairly current.

Oh yeah,,,,,,did I mention this is freeware?

This sure has been a great event,,,,simple rules ,,,,,just long enough ,,,,and the lets were a good twist from a well loved period of time in a great part of the world.

that, not only is one suppose to read the rules,
one is suppose to remember what was read.
then the pilot(me) should pass along to the navigator(me)
that RJTY is a required stop, not RJCJ.
oh well, what the hey?
I guess we'll just head back to RJTY.
besides, we blew by Mt Fuji so fast,
we hardly got to see it.
at least, I think it was Mt Fuji.

I think I'll wait until morning to make the flight.
I'm a bit tired after a long day of driving.
 
The crew from Project Magnet arrived in Australia and heard about this event. Sadly, exploration of the rules made it clear that it was not for them. Somehow, the organizers never contemplated a jet flying boat and stuck those nasty mandatory stops too far from the ocean to allow the crew to enjoy Indonesian food and a feast of sushi. However, they thought the route would fit in with their 'survey flight' (in a nuclear-capable minelayer.. hmmm...) so they told the nav/bombardier to "make it so" -with one little side trip to Macau for a visit to a hotel.. yeah.. for dinner.. right...

Nearly cracked up on the short 25 mile hop from WSSS to WMKJ. Maybe the short distance lessened my concentration but I almost augered in hand flying above the deck and then nearly stalled on final. Lost electrical for a few minutes as well. Sheesh!
 
it's too slow (as modeled) to be really viable in this event and again, a bit sparing of the fuel compared to some, but it will track like a rock in a pipe for 5000 miles.

So now there's a comparison time (actually a bit long as I held west of PAED for an indefinite time(edit: looks like about 20 minutes) while I had a meeting with my accountant) but it's something to look forward to. It also landed nicely on the dry lake with no damage.
