Skytrains forever...

It's amazing how many of those old Goonies are still flying! I'm still waiting for someone to come up with a decent AC-47 Dragonship for FSX! :salute:

You know I was thinking, as much as I love accusim and I know A2A would do an absolutely outstanding job on a C-47, I would like to see Aerosoft take on that one if MAAM is unable to. Aerosoft could do what they did with their PBY. Accusim is an amazing thing, but one of it's limitations is that it is so complex that it doesn't work with a shared cockpit. And the DC-3/C-47 would definately be a plane to share with your copilot/buddies or take passengers. The PBY had nice realistic radial behavior and it works reasonably well in shared cockpit mode. And I believe the PBY and C-47 share the same engines so that would be easy for them to model.

Cheers
TJ

An AC-47 would be nice for sure.

:salute:

Actually several AC's still in active service in different air forces around the world today, most of them now in turbine configuration (Basler has delivered several combi AC/C aircraft if I remember right).

Yeah thats the amazing thing about the C-47. Most warbirds today are museum peices or flown occasionally at airshows for our amusment. The C-47 is still at work as an efficient and reasonably cost effective aircraft for 70 some years. The one pictured in the link above served in North Africa during the war, and still hauling needed supplies to remote places in Central America. Like those AC-47s still in service...the Gooneybird was built to last. :salute:

Hi, here's another view of WIP from within gmax. Applied some fancy decals and just finished the cowl flaps, fourteen per engine, no gaps. Still trying to come to grips with FSX textures.

Rob, if you are reading this, can you check your PM?

Wow! Presently, I am making due with the stock DC-3 using a modified cockpit and I painted on some cargo doors.

Gee, that looks good!
Last weekend I had a chance to inspect a real C-47 ("Berlin Train", at the Frankfurt Airport) close up, also took a few photos. That's a real beauty!

Cheers,
Mark

Another view ... those door hinges will all be 3d, eventually, of course.

I was airlifted out of Berlin in 48 in a RAF Dakota. Remember it well. Bumpy ride. Another Dakota crashed same day, same route, due to bad weather. Edit, parents didn't like it one bit.
