I need some advice.I am going to download the bunker hill campaign using one of my copies of cfs2. If after I download it, can I delete the wildcat, hellcat, p38 and the 3 jap planes and install a skyraider and a f86 in their place. I am still using widows 98.Will I get into trouble? MY wife says I will.

You CAN remove those planes. But first there are some things you need to do.
-Remove the planes from the mdl.txt file
-Ensure that NONE of the other planes are "alaised" to these planes.
-I removed them also from the Info file with no problem.

If you do not do these you will have aLOT of headaches! Believe me you will! I have a seperate install for my PTO, ETO, and Korea and have followed these and have no problems.

There are several previous posts on this subject that can be referenced.

Hi Stick, all the Fox4 campaigns were configured with a standard CFS2 install. Unless you really know what to do I would suggest you leave it alone, or your wife's prophecy will be fulfilled, specially using Widows 98.:blind::icon_lol:

"sound" advise:

Yo Stick;

There are 6 stock a/c sound packs in CFS2:
A6M2_ZERO
F4F4_WILDCAT
F4U1A_CORSAIR
F6F3_HELLCAT
N1K2J_GEORGE
P38F_LIGHTNING

All other stock a/c are "aliased" to them; also many custom built units rely on these packs.
The A6M2_ZERO is the most widely used (the P39D_AIRACOBRA uses it!!)

(Please note that the Corsair was also flown in Korea)

But you can have your cake & eat it too! :jump:

Remove everything in these 6 a/c folders: EXCEPT the sound folders
This way you retain the sound files & paths for the aliased planes. Without the MDL files they do not show on the a/c list and therefore do not count in the 90-100 plane limit.

Also remove the a/c from the mdlnames.txt file in the main CFS2 folder.

I hope this helps you out.

You're going to love the FoxFour Campaigns. They are of exceptional quality. They got me hooked on jets. I recommend you get them all .... you won't be sorry!

The Question That Begs Asking

If after I download it, can I delete the wildcat, hellcat, p38 and the 3 jap planes and install a skyraider and a f86 in their place.

I can't resist asking why you want to delete the stock planes, when that is not necessary in order to add the new ones?

Beyond that, the place to ask this question is at the Fox Four website since the guy who wrote the campaigns is the webmaster there.....see Contact.....and is likely to have a good answer for you. :engel016:

Actually Nole, this is the best place for that question. On the face it may appear to be Fox4-specific, but if you peel back the surface you can see that this is really a general CFS2 question pertaining to setting up any new theater install, which most of us old hands have done to some extent. And this type of question has come up in this forum many times over the years.

Stick, all the above technical replies are spot on for setting up your new Korea install. I personally removed all Japanese a/c with the exception of the Zero, to which some NK or Chinese prop add-ons are aliased in sound and panel, until i can set them up with alternatives. I also removed the Devastator, Dauntless, B-25, P-38, P-39. I kept the B-24 and Wildcat (for sentimental reasons), and i also kept the Hellcat and Corsair because they both continued in limited US service even beyond the Korean conflict.

One other hint,
remove the planes from Quick Combat as well.

Hi Nole,

more than anything else, when all the sound and panel aliasing problems are fixed, this is what causes heavy CFS2 headaches.

As long as you are flying Free Flight, nothing happens. But you can get all kind of errors when starting a mission and, obviously, when trying Quick Combat, if a plane listed in the QC file is not present in the \AIRCRAFT folder. In my experience, CFS2 reacts even worse in this case than when the deleted model is still listed in the mdlnames.txt.

Actually, since the object limit for mdlnames.txt is 1,500, I deleted all aircraft model names from my mdlnames.txt file to make room for long weapon pack lists, addon scenery objects and addon ships. Apparently missing ships from mdlnames.txt can cause problems, but I never had a problem with missing aircrafts.

You must remove from the QC list all aircrafts you have deleted from your \AIRCRAFT folder, first and foremost!

Cheers!
