At the beginning of this video, I thought I saw at least 4 David Bowie clones. :icon_lol:
 
Okay...now I feel REAL old as I can remember watching that,and the rest of Live Aid, live on tv. 25 years ago this year! :kilroy::sleep:

Fortunately by the time this stuff came out, I had a decided path in my listening habits and it didn't include any of this kind of stuff.

If I remember, the band had as many as 12 different members over the years before calling it quits in 1993, so no. Not twins. :icon_lol:
 
the thing i don't understand is why the best part of the 80's is either ignored or lampooned.
i mean, judas priest, iron maiden, ozzy, ratt, megadeth, rainbow, whitesnake, triumph, etc.

television would have you believe the 80's was punk, euro, and michael jackson.
not true for where i was living.

I have to strongly disagree - I've seen quite a few Metal and rock specials on the tele from the 80s.......
 
I show this footage to my little cousins now and tell them that this group was HUGE at the time; they look at me like I just returned from deep space. That's guitarist and super producer Nile Rodgers playing guitar accompaniment in back. Later on in this set they sing the Beatles' "Revolution" with Steve Stevens playing lead guitar and Madonna singing backup.

Yep, strange how "local" a lot of music was and still is, even though everything is globalised to the hilt.

Cheezy, +1 internets for you.

Even today, "underground" cultures that are more mainstream than the biggest pop stars are still ignored. It's worse now than it ever has been. Let's take a popular modern metal band like Lamb Of God for example. Their shows are all sold out, they've had like five albums sell like hotcakes (their entire catalog is selling right now, not just their latest album) but they're ignored by TV, MTV and the radio.

The age of the internet makes it impossible for the huge record companies to decide what we'll listen to anymore, and their sales and profits are suffering. Stop blaming illegal downloads!! We're all capable of finding what we like and buying it instead. The little girls that listen to justin beiber and britney spears aren't downloading .mp3s, they don't know how. Somehow, that stuff is still crammed down our throats.

In the information age, timeless bands like Ozzy and Iron Maiden are enjoying a rennaisance. They can gladly have my money for their contributions to my life.

I remember Ratt, Ozzy, Whitesnake, and Priest all being in regular rotation on MTV. I don't remember seeing bands like Megadeth unless it was on Headbanger's Ball. What you DIDN'T see on MTV for years, until the advent of artists like Michael Jackson and Prince, were any African-American acts. You might have seen a black bassist or member of a horn section in a UK band, but that was it. Nowdays, you see very little music at all on MTV; it's all reality tv, which to me is an inherent contradiction in terms. If you want to see music television, you have to get satellite or a digital cable package.

The music industry has shot itself in the foot, the leg, the head, and the *ss, so the results are predictable. The rest of this I see as "Music I like = good" and "Music I don't like, but which still moves units = overrated" which is fine; this is why we have more than one muscial recording act in the world. I don't believe in "timeless" bands; everyone comes from a time and place, and they draw on those who came before.

I dunno, I watched MTV regularly and they played the crap out of many of the big name rock acts, even between the heavier headbangers ball vids. I got so sick of Motley Crue's home sweet home video :barf:

Funny, I have over 100 VHS tapes with headbangers ball, but the quality sucks compared to digital. I'd buy remastered compilations if they were released.

My first band was a cover/party band and we played alternative songs from bands like like Thompson twins, Talk talk, Bill idol, vapors, etc, really made me appreciate the heavier stuff, LOL.
