While doing some work around Arizona I cam across a mention that one of the few remaining Ford Tri-motors was up the hill from Bill. Something that old and still operational would be a blast to see in full FSX glory.

The Tri-motor, of course. Can't fault Bill for the eyebrows, mine have more than their share of gray (not white!) hairs...

Now really?? a Ford Tri-Motor? I wonder how many ever flew the FS9 version (or just ignored it because it was a 'default' a/c?). No one seems to express a lot of excitement about it. Sure is an awesome beast on floats too... :jump:

I was thinking of doing the Junkers Ju-160 a couple of years ago. A really sharp bird for antique airliners back then. Finding enough data on them was really difficult though. Awesome plane...

Bill I certainly don't mean to detract from what you are currently working on...those babies are a work of art in themselves. I just thought that Pacemaker was real sweetheart of idea. No one to come after you looking for their share of the revenue and we get another great old classic.

Man, I am not sure. The four seater with clean, flush windows, perhaps their newest model before the factory shut down. I know nothing about them. I need to find a book on them (in English) and figure out which one to do. There seem to be a model with a 3rd set of rear windows, and some have only 2 sets of side windows.

This is the one I am attracted to.

I have a few articles on the DR400 with some pics but not sure whether they would help - they are on the DR500/200 anyway which is the top of the line 200hp DR400. It looks much like the later verisions of the DR400/180.

The designation system can be a bit confusing but to summarise the main models are:

DR400 2 + 2 108 hp

DR 400/125 Petit Prince - 2 + 2 125hp

DR 400/120 Dauphin 80 2 + 2 112hp

DR 400/120 Petit Prince 2 + 2 118hp

DR 400/140 Major 4 seat 140hp

DR400/160 Chevalier 4 seat 160hp

DR400/160 Major 4 seat 160 hp

DR 400/180 Regent 4/5 seat 180hp (probably the most common version)

DR 400/180R Glider tug

All these models just had the two lots of windows - although the DR400/180 later got the 3 window layout. I think the 3 windowed one versions had a longer fuse

Later models included

the DR500/200 President (three windowed layout) & the Diesel powered DR400-135CDI Ecoflyer (two windowed layout).

My interest in the aircraft was that my Dad was going to build a full size Jodel D-11 but for various reasons this never happened. The DR400 & 500 series uses the same wing. My Dad also knows the ex NZ importer of Robins whom went on to build a factory here in NZ to build the all metal Robin (under the Alpha Aviation name ) 2120 and 2160 trainer (aerobatic) but it went defunct unfortunatley. The other interesting fact (which you probably know) is that the Robins are mainly of wood construction. Anyway my Dad did build his Jodel in the end - a 1/3rd scale RC model. I guess if I had the money a Robin DR400/180 or DR500 would be my choice of aircaft for touring the country.

If you need to know any more let me know..although I am not sure if I know much more than the above ..love to beta test it though!

Amazing how over here in America, we hardly know anything about your common planes there in Europe, NZ, and Oz. Another big one, in Oz, for trainers is the Jabiru. What a popular plane. I cant believe they arent known up here yet.
