What the hell is a Beegan ?

Today I was sitting having a snack in a small cafe. I couldn't help but overhear an enthusiastic discussion from anoughter table about something called Beegan's.

I checked it out on the web and it reads like a whole new wave of trendy vegetarianism (if there is such a word) of some sort.....or maybe I just made up my own trendy thing.

I believe they are vegans who will allow themselves to enjoy honey and beeswax based produce (anything from bees).

I remember when I was studying for my undergraduate degree there was a young lady who was a militant vegan sharing a floor with my girlfriend in halls of residence. The enforced kitchen segregation was a nightmare, so much so that my better half moved down to the guys floor with me permanently.

If memory serves the PETA groupie types seemed to have a definite hierarchy based on how "hardcore" their self enforced no animal diet was. Vegetarians who ate fish (we all know one) were the bottom of the pile, followed by normal vegetarians, then the beegans and suchlike, then the vegans, then the raw food crowd (nothing should be cooked or heated). I think the top of the pyramid was capped with a bunch of people, the term for which I cannot remember, but it basically involved only eating something that had naturally fallen from a tree or some such nonsense.

I think the technical term for that last group is "beetles or worms."

Plenty of protein in insects, gram for gram more than meat :jump: ahh brings back memories of survival exercises... :salute:

Some religions consider eating insects "unclean" but in lots of places people eat them. I've seen roasted grasshoppers but couldn't build up the courage to eat one.

you should have done they're not too bad, i think one survival ex we were given a bag of rice so we went after anything that moved... Fish.... Insects.... Foliage.... it's easy enough to cook insects, some can be eaten raw... you just have to know whats what and what may be toxic etc...

As i say insects aren't too bad, we all eat spiders in our sleep from time to time... good rule of thumb though is to go for the high protein simple to catch stuff, if you're chasing a single grasshopper for 5 minutes you'll have used the protein of 15-20 grasshoppers would have given, things like Ants, Grubs... theres a lot, i know in one store not 15 miles from me you can get scorpion, chocolate covered spiders, chocolate covered ants... kinda tasty actually, and why do i sense a few people not wanting to eat now? :icon_lol:

Hmmmm....

To me BGAN is a form of International Maritime Satellite Terminal (INMARSAT) that provides satty based broad band coverage.

We use it everyday....

No bees were injured in the posting to this thread.

Beegans. That's funny right there. I say if God didn't intend for us to eat animals he wouldn't have made them out of meat.

Proof, not eating meat affects the mind

You wanna be a vegetarian? Have at it, but don't tell me that you're doing it because eating meat is wrong or causes pain and suffering. Plants have to be 'murdered' for you to eat a tasty salad too. They are living beings, and we have absolutely no clue or fathom of whether or not they have a consciousness, but I'll tell you: Have you ever seen the time lapse video of a heat lamp placed next to a plant? It looks just like an animal shying away from danger.

That's the thingy I found to Clarke. The discussion at the table next to me sounded like it was around someone else they knew that was supposedly a Beegan, and why or why not they should be classified as a Beegan. It all sounded like an alien watchers convention to me.

Talk about insects...I saw this doco on TV some time back and showed asian peasants trying to sell deep fried Tarantulas by the bowl full to travellers in cars along busy roadways....."eerrr, no thanks, I've just had a meal".

I'm not sure about what a beegan is, but i saw a show on TV a couple of weeks ago about a group in Australia called "freegans" did anyone else catch it?

made me want to go kill a cow , or something...lol

That's hilarious....especially your last-line comment. :applause:

theres 1 fundamental flaw, ok teeth the enamel coating... in vegetarians it gets worn away quickly due to the 'substances' in a pure leafy diet, eating meat cuts down on the amount this happens, if god had intended us to eat fruit/veg only then why did he give us incisors and canines? canines to grip meat and incisors to tear the meat... if we were destined for veg only then we'd have a mouth full of molars, kinda like a cow has :icon_lol:

anyways i'm going to go eat this rump steak, blue, the best way! :wiggle:

I read a article sometime back in which the author believed that in switching from a grain diet to meat helped early humanoids develop the human brain.

I don't remember any of the details. However, it had something to do with the extra protein in meat that accelerated brain growth.

Of course, it could also have been that if you weren't smart enough to figure out to kill the animal before it ate you, you were quickly removed from the gene pool. :d
