That being said, with rough last 2 seasons that both Ford & Dodge have had, I found myself once again strangely cheering for Kahne & Kurt Busch....

Good race yesterday. This might well be Denny's season to win the championship, but the season is far from over. JJ struggled on the track and had one or two slow pit stops, they really seem to be having a hard time adjusting to the new spoiler and the pit crew is making mistakes this year. JJ's chances of five championships in a row are fading, but the season is far from over. Nice finish for Kasey and Junior had a solid top 10 finish!

Yeah, Ford looked like a race car for the first time this year, but that new engine was overheating real bad and that race was only 400 miles.
Good run for Junior, but he'd better step up his initiative or he'll find himself walking in favor of a cheaper, younger guy. Junior ain't no spring chicken anymore.
Oh I pick on Ed, but I know all the 48 team has to do is stay in the running, they peak those last ten races. I still think NASCAR should have a road course in the last ten races, 4 of the 10 are held on cookie-cutter one and a half mile ovals just made for the 48 team. Only at Talledega is the 48 team presented with a track in which they have trouble with. The Chase for the Chump needs to end, period, if a man can accumalate enough points to win by September or October, fine, that's the way it should be and shows the mark of a true Champion, the Chase for the Chump is just TV and NASCAR playing play-off in stock cars.

Nice to hear there is someone else that does not like the chase. To me it's socialized racing, take from the team that has spent 26 races accumulating points and in effect give them to others who have not. Seems that happened to Gordon 2 or 3 years ago.

Well like I said for JJ to come back and win the Championship will certainly be one of the greatest comebacks in the history of all sports! :d Because Gibbs Toyota has the horsepower and the handling far far superior to any other engine/chassis combo on the track.
Denny said it himself - "the best car won" and paraphrasing - "It's easy when you have the best car".
As far as the Chase is concerned - I don't have a problem with it. Most sports have playoffs and championships of one sort or another why shouldn't racing? If the season is over by Sept as far as the Championship goes why would anybody watch any more races? Ratings and suspense matter more than any individual driver's win record. Does this mean the "hot" driver at the end of the year wins? Well yeah just like football, baseball, basketball, NCAA etc... So you better be good enough to "turn it on" when you need to or go home and that's fine with me - it shows how good you truly are. Think about it - the ability to perform when you have to and not just ride a hot streak - what else truly defines greatness? That makes what JJ and Chad have done even more amazing - when it is time to "turn it on" they do - four years in a row - what other team(s) in the entire history of NASCAR have been able to do that? None! Doing it one year or two may be luck but 4 years in a row? That ain't luck. Can they do 5? Well I hope so but I'm not so sure I would bet on it right now.
That said is there any real justification for doing things in the traditional way? It's not like you could ever truly compare driver performances between drivers of today and yesteryear. Does the fact of change basically belittle or show less respect for what you grew up used to and liking and seeing as good enough? Like Yeah but get used to it - it's the way of life. If you have kids you know that. Change is good and there is a lot more coming like it or not - embrace it.

You're right about that Ed, change is coming, buy it may not be to your liking. Hush, hush for now. NASCAR has straightened out its racing politics on the track, but there are still two factors fans are heavily in favor of eliminating, the COT and the Chase for the Chump. And that is national, not just regional. NASCAR has started listening to the fans after such a dismal fan attendance last year. This year attendence is up good and that's due to allowing the drivers to race. Next they need to put them in real race cars and end that stupid Chase concept. NASCAR has a long season off. If they want a World Series, let them pick the top four drivers afyer the season has ended and have two semi races and then one race between two drivers to win it all. That's the way your other sports do it, you don't see 43 teams on the pitch, court or field playing for all the marbles. Let the driver win it in the season, then settle your playoff mano a mano.
