Do you use Plan-G ?

I've tried it but it is just way too laggy on my computer for some reason. To the point it is far from usable. It is really a shame...
 
The reason it's so "laggy" is that, depending on the zoom level, and the part of the world you're looking at, it may have to build a KML file consisting of thousands of airport symbols. Unless you have a screaming fast box, it's a bit of a hassle. On my new Asus P6T with Core i7 920 2.66 GHz with 8 GB of RAM, it runs ok. But on this machine, Intel Pentium D 2.00 GHz with 4 GB of RAM, it's slow. When I'm looking at any part of the US or Europe, it bogs down significantly.

Love the program, however. I just run it on my fast machine.

Urgh... Guess that blows my plans of using a very old laptop and doing the networking thingy? Unless the KMZ file can be built on another system and transferred over?

There isn't much out there that will run on a 1.06ghz Celeron, with 512mb of RAM and a 20gb HD. But it was a nice laptop eight+ years ago...
 
I have it on my laptop, and networked via simconnect to my FSX computer.
I save my flight plans from Plan-G to a public document folder on my network, so I can pull them up in FSX.
Works much better this way as it is very resource dependent.
But can still take its time filling in the data.
Does help if you a zoomed in quite a bit.
I mostly use it in Terrain mode too.
 
I find it laggy and difficult to use on my system too - E8400 dual core, 4 Gb RAM, 8800GT 512 Mb GPU, Win XP
 
I have used it for many months now and find it, as a VFR pilot mainly, it is great. The lag on may machine is of about 3 seconds, no big deal.......but as anything for FSX, if you don´t have the hardware necessary it will not be of your liking.....it´s not for any 512 Mb Video Card I would think.

I like it very much, I run it networked on an old laptop, and yes there lag, and it takes forever to load up, but is nice as a moving map feature. Have yet to try planning through it though.
Does it use Radar Contact format plans I wonder?
 
I use it to plan all my flights and loving it. I even have a copy running on my 5 year old work laptop in order to plan my flights at work and then copy over the flight plans to my FSX computer at home. Yes it is kind of laggy but useable, even on the old laptop with an ancient 128MB ATI9600 card. A fine piece of freeware software imho.
 
Yes I use it, I7 860, 8GiG of RAM, ATI 5870, on an SSD drive and Win 7 64 Ultimate. No lag whatsoever on my second monitor using SimConnect. Great product, simply...:wiggle:
