Can't believe it's been almost twelve years since the release of the original Half-life..

I still remember reading a review in a Belgian magazine (Printed on paper!) and going to the store to buy a copy.. I spend most of christmas 1998 deep inside the 'Black Mesa' complex. HL1 was one of the first games that had a strong story told through numerous scripted events, and the entire game was one long level, not seperate short levels like most shooters of that time.

Recently I found Half-Life 2 and the episodes 1&2 and after playing through those I thought:"Well why not try and see if the original still works?" I did not have much hope for a twelve year old game to work in Windows 7 64-bit but it works just fine! :d

After installing I applied a patch (The one that came with the 'Opposing force' add-on) I made a profile in Nhancer in which I set both the anti-aliasing and the anisotropic filtering to the maximum values to compensate for the maximum resolution of 1280x960 on a 1680x1050 monitor. Framerates (Anyone remember the command to test that? ;)) range from 250 to 600 fps and no, that's no typo! :jump:
Loading times? I've seen microstutters in FSX that lasted longer..

Granted it looks like an old game, but the gameplay is still great after all those years. :applause:

Only problems I've had so far are getting stuck in an elevator from time to time (Though IIRC that problem occured twelve years ago too) and one 'trigger' not working alright leaving me at a closed door.

sv_fps 1?

sv_noclip 1 :d

And then sv_god 1 and sv_impulse 101. :d

Oh how awesome HL was. Definately the best series of shooters out there since full of good moments!
The first rays of daylight in the lobby of the complex brought a tear to my eye. And then the firefight along the canyon...

sv_fps 1?

I use 'timerefresh' for that; on the computer I had to first play Half-life on the viewpoint would spin 360 degrees and then give an FPS reading. Nowadays you don't even see the 360 spin anymore!

I've played HL1 on a 133 Mhz CPU with equally bad other components and never ever had that problem. Weird.

What problem? That was the test. It would determine the framerate by measuring the average fps during a 360 degree rotation. At the current 250+ fps you don't even see the 360 degree spin anymore, it is simply too fast to see.

I thought it just made the fps display appear.

Need to test that the next time I fire up CounterStrike 1.6 on my laptop. :d
