Let me please remind everybody of the rules which govern the re-use of other people's work; it is standard procedure to try as far as possible to contact the author or authors of the work you wish to re-use, and ask for permission. In my experience, permission is almost invariably granted, at least if you are a bona fide modder in good standing with the community.

There are cases where people fail to do this, and one has just arisen.

Orbiter.ch, a newcomer as far as I can see, has posted a package of two Swiss Air Corps Morane D-3800 (MS.406 derivatives) which Viso and I did ages ago in 2005. These have not been modified one bit - and yet he makes it sound as though he participated in the process. He did not. The files are unchanged, and all that he has done is to put them into a new folder and upload them.

Such behaviour is totally unacceptable.

If you have innocently downloaded these files, obviously you were not to know. But please, if you want a Swiss Morane, the originals are here:

There is a problem - which Orbiter failed to fix, btw, in that I used the "France_Vichy" nationality which existed in the original NEK. The fix is here:

Admin needs to check the rest of the Orbiter.ch stuff, too. It all looks like re-packaged items to me.

It all looks highly suspicious to me. They've even got the MS CFS3 3.1 and 3.1a Updates in some of their packages.

They even have FirePower files in there.

It looks like most of the files in all of those zips came from right here at SOH.

They have the names of Simulators.li and Orbiter.ch on them.

I simply cannot say whether or not that they have obtained the proper permissions for these items, but they do have some of the creators' names in their credits.

The A-1 Skyraider and F9F Panther packs have dpc weapons in them.

If there are any of the original authors of these items out there now, they should probably check these for themselves.:d
 
There are AvHistory and DPC models in there, as you say. If my experience is anything to go by, the whole lot should be deleted...
 
appears is issue ...needing attn , through admin , all i can say is thats a "no/no" in any agenda of creation and style ..seems like this party has big gonades and should be careful cause news travels fast and reputations can be destroyed .

This does seem a bit Bold.
I looked at this and realized they are just repackaged Birds..

I would have gressed permissions were given, Now I realize it is not so..

They should be removed..

I realize the great efforts the developers go to to Build these birds, and we should all respect this..
Bravo to you my friend and all who work so hard for all of us, In giving us the wonderful birds we now have..

And I will say EVERYTIME I have asked for Permission to use a item in My missions..
The Owners have always been kind enough to allow me to do so..
So getting permission usually isn't a problem..

I have just posted this thread in the staff forum so the "rulebreaker" will more than likely come under the spell of a staff infection!!!!(terrible pun, I know)

CFS3 Mustang P-51D J-2113 of the Swiss Air Force (1948).
Repaint / Standalone conversion by Orbiter.ch and Simulators.li.
Research materials were used to make the aircraft as accurate as possible. They may be used as freeware. They are used at your own risk. They have been extensively tested in CFS3 and work perfectly. Enjoy! :jump:
 
I'd love to know WHAT research materials he means - in the case of our Morane's, that meant Viso's use of the AvHistory workbook. Not his.

It REALLY pisses me off when people try to pass other people's work off as their own, or make it appear as though they had a hand in it.

I asked Douglas to remove it yesterday when I discovered all this.

Second question - most if not all do look it to me. AvHistory, DPC and Mudpond among others.
