Gunsight adjusting

Killer Svend

SOH-CM-2024
From time to time,when downloading a new fighter, the row of bullets does not fit with the center of the gunsight any possibilities to anjust this error? I know very little about how the files are buildt, so everythings will help.

Aim-It

Well, there is a utility called "Aim-It" made by Jerry Beckwith that lines them up with the click of a mouse. However, I could not find it here or at Simviation (I know its hiding somewhere). If you do a Goggle search you will find it at a web site we don't mention around here. I can send you a copy if you PM me your e-mail. If you are not sure how to PM me look under your user CP functions. Wow the new SOH takes some getting used to!!!

If we're talking about the 2D panel, it is usually related to the panel view. At the beginning of the panel.cfg file there should be something like this:

[VIEWS]
view_forward_WINDOWS=%window_title_00%
VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=2.8, 0.0, 0.0
That 2.8 is the figure you need to tweak. A higher number will raise the bullets, and a lower one will bring them down.

If you need to do the same in the Virtual cockpit, you'll need to do something similar in the [views] section of the aircraft.cfg file:

[Views]
eyepoint=-3.2,0.0,3.0
The last figure is the one you need to play with. Remember that this time you're changing your point of view, not the bullet stream. If it's too high you'll need lower your POV, and the opposite if the bullets run too low.

* edit:: all this with a simple text editor like Windows Notepad, sorry for not explaining that in the first moment.

Concentration point or viewing angle?

May be Killer Svend has one or two different problems:

The guns are not harmonized. They fire more or less parallel to the flying line and do not concentrate the bullets in any specific point. To correct this he need to adjust the angle of the guns relative to the centerline of the aircraft to make the bullets concentrate in a point say 200 feets in front of the aircraft. This way if you aim correctly you can have maximum gunpower and not a shotgun pattern. I don´t know how to do this. May be by Dpedit. Or may be by the program that Erufle is taking about.

The eye of the pilot is not correctly aligned with the gunsight altitud: The bullets are seen below or above the center of the gunsight. JL gave the solution to this.

I hope this makes things clearer for you. If not ask again! Someone with more knowledge, more intelligent, more wiser than me will have the answer.

Cheers, Discus

I use 'aimit' on quite a few planes and though I have to use a wee bit of a 'trial and error' method for the odd aircraft, it's a winner! Don't leave home wit'out it!:wiggle:

Sven, another thing is if you have a plane with wing guns, this program really comes into it's own. The P-47 is devastating in it's own right, but this program makes it all the more so. I turned the Polish Pzl-11 into a real killer with this program.
