OT: Very Old Photos of Ancient Egypt

This is the site that got flooded by the dam they built isn't it?

They relocated most of the monuments, the tunnels were lost to the water.

Nice find Bill. I like the 'biblical' type clothing worn by various individuals. They look like they're right off a Cecil B. DeMille stage set. Except these Egyptians are wearing every day duds.

Hey Snuffy,

I think the Dam wasnt made until the 70's or 80's. Those are just common Nile floods I think you are seeing, flood damage from occasional, rare Nile super-floods.

Its hard to believe that temples and buildings that are 3 to 7 stories high can be covered totally over in dirt and rocks. Its as though it was erased.

Speaking of erased, note how they erased some royal names from the Hieroglyphics writings? Some area's are chisled blank or covered over with mortar and recut.

Whats so wierd is that these buildings are perhaps 5,000+ years old and they have straighter edges then houses that are new here in Phoenix, and theirs (in Egypt) are still standing....

Go figure...

This is Nubian Monuments that were relocated back in the 60's during the building of Aswan dam and lake Nasser. Pretty impressive move if you ask me. You'd be surprised how advanced people of this time period really were. I got to see Tutankhamun exhibit when it was here in ft lauderdale a couple years back and the craftsmanship of some of the pieces displayed was astounding. Most of them looked like they were just made today.

That's what I said Joe, I just couldn't pull the names out of my hat ... ;) :salute: Thank you sir.
