New to this Forum and would like some info if available.

Just getting back to the Combat Sims and really like CFS2. Have downloaded some different planes and missions and need to tweak the Graphics. Over in the FSX forum some one posted how to tune for FSX.
Is there any other way to get better graphics,Scenery pkgs.,updates, etc.

Is there mutiplayer still being done? I went to one site but no luck.

Thanks
JT

multiplayer....if you go to http://www.thecfs2flightdeck.com/ there are instructions for setting up multiplayer. I am not sure if it is 'globally active', per se, but I have some local friends that I used to play with, before I graduated to FSX. But the steps listed on the site still work. And it has some pretty awesome skins.

Re: Multiplayer

Yo Easy;

It is possible to use multiplayer to connect & fly with a group of friends .... HOWEVER it is not an easy thing to set-up in order to host a game. (unlike FSX)

When CFS2 was built, multiplayer was designed to work on dial-up connections as it requires a
static IP address to host a session. The vast majority of DSL lines are dynamic so this requires the host to create a static IP. There are a few static DSL IP's .... if you have one then your are 50% done.

If your PC is connected to a network; then you'll need to create a "DMZ" & punch a hole in your firewall. I've found it's easier to just plug your PC directly into the Internet router (if possible)

On the downside we have had an odd problem. Those using (native) static IP's seem to suffer speed & framerate degradation. (this happens to Rami & Tango_Romeo) It occurs slowly at first but soon reaches a point where the f/r's get so low (5-8) that the game is no longer playable for them. But the others in the group have no trouble at all and the session proceeds normally.

So ... using a service like "Flight Deck" is definitely the easiest way to go; BUT you fly with & against strangers.

You can also use a "port forwarding" service like Hamachi to create a 3rd party static IP in order to host.

When our group flies, we use a Skype conference call to provide audio to everyone.... NOTHING beats the fun of "flaming yer buddies a$$" & have him hear you laughing as he goes down in flames!!!

Also note that multiplayer has certain restrictions: NO bombs, rockets or torps. Just bullets (& balls) between participants. We play "free for all", the first one with 10 kills wins. (when shot down, you re-spawn a few moments later aprx. 1-2 miles from your impact point)

If you become damaged, simply land at the base and come to a full stop. Then the fastest groundcrew in history repairs your plane in a nano-second & you are ready to rejoin the fur-ball.

BTW
- I also use & recommend a separate install for multiplayer only.
- You can use any CFS2 plane. It's best if everyone has a copy of everyone's plane otherwise the non-stock planes show on the other peoples screens as the default CFS2 A6M2 Zero
- We keep the rules simple: only stock WW2 era planes - NO PERFORMANCE MODS ALLOWED

I hope this gives you a better understanding of the multiplayer aspects of CFS2.

PS. I've never flown at "The Zone" or "Flight Deck" .... I prefer to shoot down my friends....

Ya think so?

Jeez Dirty.....that's nasty!:ernae:

.... you should hear Collin laugh when he shoots me down!! I seem to have become his favourite target.

A typical session starts with me trying to stay on his 6 & just out of gun range .... then a "target of opportunity" presents itself ... (usually Rami - LOL!!!) .... the next thing I see are tracers going past my canopy with Collin laughing in the background. He laughs MUCH harder when I "spiral in" and go "splat".

Just now i hosted a room on Reverb Game Lobby and everything works great.
I am getting a mind blowing 250+ fps. CFS2 and W7 work superb together.
So far had no CTD or even 2 digit fps, always in the 3 digit range.
500+ the highest so far.
