The driver of a Mercedes SLS AMG faces a fine of up to £600,000 after he was caught doing 180mph on Swiss roads.

The unnamed Swedish man was arrested by police after a speed camera on the A12 between Bern and Lausanne recorded him breaking the 75mph limit by an astonishing 105mph.

Due to the potential size of the fine, the 37-year-old's £150,000 supercar was impounded while the case goes to court.

An official for the Federal Roads Office told Le Figaro that, although there were no figures to refer to, the SLS driver's speed was 'very close to a record' for Switzerland.

The nation's system for imposing speeding fines directly relates to the offender's income. The maximum fine allowable is 1 million Swiss francs.

Maybe he should have tried to hide his income in a swiss bank account.

Oh, wait...:icon_eek:

Don't radar traps normally quit working properly at 275+ kph?

At least the ones in Germany.

Wow. Europe is tough with driving fines. About a year or two ago I read a story that in Finland they assess traffic fines based on your yearly income, and there are people with good jobs getting traffic fines of 40,000 to 60,000 Euro's. Ouch!

There's a time and a place ,however. If our Mercedes pilot had decided to stretch his legs,so to speak, he should have scouted the area first for cameras (unless it was a mobile camera?). Fastest I've ever driven on a public road was ~150mph...though that was on a good road that I knew very well, excellent weather conditions, no other traffic and in the early hours of the morning.
