FSx Essex AI Carrier CV-10 WWII 1944, who want's it ?

I've noticed several screen shots with out smoke, this seems to be a FSx bug, if you start and there is no smoke then usually a restart flight or reselection of the flight will produce smoke from the vessel, ie dont restart FSx, just the mission or flight. Not sure why it does this, the 1st player one does the same on occasion.

It is quite an interesting effect to "stand" on deck and watch the stack gas issue forth! Generally this was fairly faint, sort of diesel truck like unless the black gang was "blowing the tubes".

These are quite nice, born from a lot of reseach!

Using these with the new Solomons period scenery to test the F7F we are working on.

Thanks! T

Fantastic bit of modeling (no surprise there)

I did a landing on the Yorktown using AIcarriers off the coast of Pensacola using the SNJ. Usually when I use the USS Monterey it's a struggle to get the plane to slow down before landing. With the Yorktown, it's so much bigger and faster, I had to add power to catch up.

One quick question about the readme file. There was the line "NO commercial use." I can understand what that means regarding the model mesh and the textures, but do you also include a restriction on any images or videos that might be made using the model?

I wouldn't have thought there was much commercial gain from FS videos and images ?.

I've no restrictions if you want to make movies so feel free, mind I'd pretty narked if you won some 'movie' convention and 1st prize was a Ferrari LOL.

If you wish to use the carriers as a back drop for commercial aircraft movies or promo images then thats fine, they're back drop props not the main subject matter, so long as some sort of credit is given somewhere as to the vessel's author thats fine by me.

Does that cover everything ?, if its more complex than that, PM me, I dont bite LOL.

Glad your having fun though, that was the over riding intention of the release, to have fun.

1st Person player vessels are in the library now, note the smoke in the images is the old smoke, there all thinner and whiter.

Camera views are all accessed from the VC mode.

Michael,
I need to find out how to keep some of these WWII aircraft from nosing over when I catch a wire?

I don't want to hijack this thread so please PM me...

thanks, mal

Mal,

No hijack in my books, all carrier related stuff is good, is it just these carriers or all carriers ?, if its all then you'll need to look in the aircraft cfg, you might need to artificially move the main gear forward a bit. In theory the hook should snag the wire and hold the tail down, in reality I suspect all the sim is doing is applying a lot of brake effort and thus nosing over.

I think theres a setting in the cfg for carrier settings, tail hook and such, there maybe a force in there which you can dial in to give you a longer roll out, I think its called

cable_force_adjust = 1

If its not in your cfg try adding it and then try larger or smaller numbers, I'm pretty sure I recall its a sort of stopping force parameter.

Mal, besides cable force adjustment & depending aircraft type*geometry, I moved the tailhook further aft on a couple of problematic taildraggers and it did the trick. The effect was in essence to have a tailhook engagement a second or so after a 3 point touchdown and slight deceleration.
The other "must" is setting up wind down the deck at no less than 8 knots up to 16 knots. At touchdown, hold at or near full back pressure in the stick. The rest of it is figuring out the best speeds. Right now, I am having near 100% trap rate with taildraggers in FSX.

Depending on how fast Crashaz set the AI carrier speed you might not need that extra wind, the 1st person vessel will get to nearly 40knts and I tend to set all my AI carriers to 35knts, I think book speed was 32knts, but 40 will give you that extra 8knts your looking for and no meesing with setting weather wind and its direction, it'll always be enough no matter the course of the carrier.

From reading other threads about tail-dragging planes making landings on FSX carriers, it seemed that the most common solution to prevent the plane from always nosing over was to adjust the aircraft's cfg file so that the tailhook co-ordinate was a bit further back than it actually was on the model. I did that with the SU SNJ model.

Thanks for going over the visual use details Michael. I once had a run-in with a scenery builder over such issues, so I'm very keen to avoid any mis-understandings. My current video project is the 1934 MacRobertson air race, but I never know when I might need a good carrier scene.
On my video to-do list is an international incident that would involve an Essex-class carrier.

The carrier is looking so empty, it needs a deck crew!
If you check the libraries of the FSX Solomon 1943 project, you will find a library "c-fsx-people.bgl", in which there is a complete set of deck crew people, from the LSO to pilots or gun crews, or mechanics and so on.
If you want, you can have the mdl files to place them around the deck.
They are ported CFS2 objects, so you might want to contact the original author prior to using it.

Just let me know.

Cheers,
Mark

PS: you know what c-fsx stands for :) ???

Mark,

I have no idea what c-fsx stands for LOL.

Your right about the crew, I do hope to add some later, using the others is a possibility and thanks for the tip off, much appreciated, but right now I'm all out of time to develope this much more at the moment, I have other tasks that 'must' be attended to.

Is there still a plan for releasing AI routes?
