Hi all,

Just got back from visiting my Dad and spending what turned out to be a bit of a disappointing airshow at Shoreham. It seems everytime I attend an airshow the weather is awful but this was the first time it had caused most of the displays to be cancelled (including the Lanc, B17 and Vulcan :crybaby:). Anyhow enough of me whinging*... I have been sorting through what few pictures I managed to take and thought I'd share this one. Kind of sums up the 70th year anniversary of the Battle of Britain for me..... Enjoy!

*Shouldn't really moan I was standing not 20 foot from the Buchon when it started up :jump:

Nice piccie Chris, froze the props!
I was going to go myself, shame the weather took the upper hand. :(

Did you get any pics of the buildings especially that wonderful terminal building?

Well, this is England.... :bump: ..... (Yes I know, it's easy! :icon_lol: :icon_lol: )

I've seen one airshow in England, it was Woodford 1998..... and wheather was bad and both the BOBMF and the Su27's were cancelled. Fortunately, the Su27's finally came but not the BOBMF.

Is was an excellent airshow, it was the first time I could see a Constellation in flight but, having missed the Lancaster is very frustrating, I've never seen this one in flight. I plan to go to Duxford airshow, maybe next year.

Well Led Zepp,

They have a large a/c collection and we have the weather,
don't you think our friends should take the historical airway to
show us what's best on the other side of the channel ?

You're WELCOME !

Great architecture, typical 1930's art deco style. I love it!
I had the Buchon and Spitfire flying over my house as they were waiting for their slot at Shoreham. Eyecandy! After looking out of the window I gave it a miss this year, but was already spoilt in Farnborough and Eastbourne.
Great Picture, have you got any more to share?
Being my closest airport, I obviously like to see any pics!
Cheers...

I suppose if you can't get hold of real ones, you have to make do with copies...

Just to reassure you, I'm the one who isn't in both photos. Note however that there are two different Bf109Gs here, not one.

Theyre still Buchons just with the proper Daimler Benz engines installed! Still very jealous you got to see them. Where were the photos taken?

The original Red 7 was a Buchon, correct - at one point. But its airframe had been built in Germany as a Bf109J prototype and sent to Spain in the initial "this is how you do it" shipment.

Both sets taken at La Ferte Alais in the days when we could get in free and had runway passes. All good things, unfortunately...

I did not know that! Weren't some of the early Buchons built with the correct engines, they just didnt supply enough of them to the Spanish? Still have fond memories of seeing (and hearing!) Black 6 at Duxford....

Apparently they supplied 25 G-2 airframes to the Spanish, but no engines! I find that hard to believe, but in the absence of anything more concrete... As far as I can tell, the only DB60X-engined 109 in Spanish service was actually an F-4 which got left behind during a flight to North Africa.

The Bf109J never saw service, and the Spanish tried to fit Hispano HS12Z engines instead - which already gave the resulting Ha-1109J and K a rather odd look. Hispano couldn't keep up with demand (from either Spanish or French factories) and so the Merlin was fitted.

This is an Ha-1109K1L with a French-built Hispano engine.

I sheltered from the rain under that Catalina's wing last summer at Culdrose. It was so wet, you could hardly see where the rain ended and the puddles began. :banghead: But they did fly her right over our campsite the following morning. :jump:
