OT: Surfs Up!

Snuffy

Looks like the surfing is going to get pretty rad here in J'ville! And all along the east coast of FLA here this coming week!!

Where we normally see waves of 2 maybe 3 feet, they're projecting wave heights of 13 feet or better!

Still not west coast quality surf but a lot bigger than what this side of the country is use to seeing.

Of course, IF Earl doesn't follow the predictions ... he stands a good chance of calling on my neighborhood ... some say as a possible Cat 4 ... should be an interesting week.

I read an article in Outdoor magazine, I believe it was, and St Augustine was rated as the #2 surf city on the east coast...second to Charleston, SC. I grew up surfing in New Smyrna, Daytona, Cocoa but never imagined that there was any "good" surf spots north of Daytona.

hopefully Earl will miss the eastern seaboard...its already cat2 and strengthening....for the last couple of days the noaa has been adjusting the track a little to the west with every update..

My brother-in-law will be out in it. Heard on the radio the rip currents will be nasty. Hopefully the tourists that don't know about the hazards of being in the ocean during a storm steer clear.

Are all of you from Jacksonville? Never knew there were so many people around this area on here.. Yeah it looks like this weekend is going to be pretty cruddy on the ocean. Was hoping to be able to go out on the intercoastal water way/st johns this weekend but is not looking like a good idea. I hope it does miss us, and doesn't flood out the beaches. We already have had a couple people get taken by rip currents in the ocean this week. Sure only more will follow as the week progresses.

Today in southeast Florida the marine forecast was for 5-7 ft seas but actually there was some steady 8 footers. Gonna be like that the rest of the week. May get bigger as the week goes on.

Cape Hatteras always get blunt end of hurricanes. It also is the closest to the Gulf Stream. They also have the lowest areas from Nags Head to Hatteras.Where I live if we just have a strong North eastern we get into trouble. What really cracks me up is when they hear of a hurricane, everybody panics and starts filling up the freezer and refrigerator and then they loose power for a few days....ooops, now what cha gonna do with all dat food. Part two is when a dummy thinks their car is a boat and completely submerge their car....I didn't think it was that deep....lol But the biggest doo doo mistakes is when I see a ten grand generator attracted to a house in a low area....what good is the generator if it's underwater. I guess by Friday we will get to rock and roll for a bit. If our generator goes under water Hampton and Newport News will be in big chet. We have a few street around here that go under water but at my house I have never seen it...knock on wood.
