An observation...

Reply...

I'm going to reply and I don't think you guys are going to like what I have to say. I volunteered to help as a beta tester on a campaign, when I ask a simple question or make a suggestion I got my head bit off.

I spent a lot of time to save and upload files lost in the crash and even offered to back up library files for the site as I have 3+ TBs of storage available. I was meet with disdain and silence.

I was traveling in CO when the site desperately needed files stored on a computer there that the late gentleman's children were having trouble accessing.

I offered to stop with my laptop and 500 gig external drive to save the files and was soundly rebuffed. So I gave up.

I don't need adulation from others to feel complete ,but why try to help if I'm going to get that kind of response, some will disagree with me and that's your right but there you go. I truly appreciate all of the hard work that everyone has put into CFS2, you have made it a great program.

Safn1949,

I'm sorry your experiences have been negative in that regard. If I was privy to any of those experiences, please accept my apologies.

a wee bit off the topic, but DevilDog, could that've been F-14 by Microprose? It was a pretty good sim for it's time. I know you could change formations in flight. I remember really enjoying my carrier landings as well.

Still and all, I agree with you.....this sim (cfs2) beats 'em all, hands down.....once again thanks to our veteran designers and resident gurus.

I know I'd be lost without these guys!

Bob,

In the missions file you can hand edit the AI aircrafts speed and alt so it can go below 50ft or slower than 100kts.

Now for AI taking off and landing on a carrier it probably has to be programed into the game and is more than a dp file or MDL file fix.But at least it gives you something to work on and try. I fly a sim that has AI planes taking off and landing on carriers ( 12 to 16 planes ) but it is a newer game than CFS2.

Here is somthing you don`t see very much in CFS2. A vaper trail comming off a wing. The caption read going after a Zero.

To All

Just look at the out-house- it did not get here by itself-everyone that is here or has been here made it what it is today and truth be known we are all a little guilty of not saying thanks at one time or another.
without everyone here CFS2 would kaput, i will say THANKS to anyone who has ever put up anything I have downloaded or not, without the people here I don't where we would be-no where i reckon- To All I say THANKS for the hours, days, weeks and sleepless night you have put in so we could have what we have.

alpha_1, It might have been. I used to fly alot of F-14 / FA-18 sims that no longer work on XP and newer OS. I loved USN Fighters from Janes. The CD finally cracked from taking it in and out of the case too much, and I could not fly it any longer. It seems to me though that it was a F4F Wildcat that I was flying in one of them.

I have experimented with using the Thatch Weave here in CFS2 using waypoints set VERY close together. As soon as the Zekes get within range, the other pair of Wildcats break formation with my flight. No self-respecting IJN pilots would try to attack 4 Wildcats in the weave from what I have read. To do so was almost certain death. But as soon as the others broke formation in CFS2, the Zekes would attack. We all know what happens in CFS2 if a Wildcat gets into a dogfight with more AI Zeroes than player and wingmen Wildcats! AI Zeroes turn on a pinpoint, never run out of fuel or ammo, and never feel the effects of Gs. I seldom set CFS2 to unlimited anything. If I do, I am too tempted to stay and fight a losing battle. In that, I tend to set my controls to as near normal as possible. I also use 1% DP settings for .50 cals in all of my aircraft. M$ set them way to impotent for USN and USMC standards! In real life, .50 cals would flat tear apart enemy aircraft. US Tracers had a real nasty habit of setting IJN planes' fuel on fire since they did not have self-sealing tanks early on.

But I digress! I do not want to hijack Rami's original thread here.

BTW, anyone that wants to fly as beta testers for me, I have missions available as Bong and/or McGuire. I am not nasty in disposition and will take some constructive criticism quite well, as Rami knows. I will listen to suggestions as long as they do not change the historic value of the missions. I tend to be rather purest there within the abilities of CFS2 to be accurate. Also, I try to use as few add-ons as possible. Where I need real help is in number of planes and objects and still keep FPS within "normal" limits. I have a fairly powerful computer setup. I sometimes get carried away and let my machine get down to 25FPS, which on some machines is only 5 to 10 FPS. Nobody wants to fly a sim-slide-show.

Sage Words

Wise words, DD. Thanks for that. I'd volunteer to do some beta testing for you, but at dual core 1600, I've got frame rate issues already with the Aces campaigns. Wish, but DO I WISH!..... that my 'puter had more juice! All in all, though the Aces campaigns are terrific! Great job!:salute:

I have never been an avid simmer, always wanted to be but never had a worthy computer. A few years ago I picked up CFS 3 and blindly wondered if there were any updates or fixes. Well, the O-house was one of the first sites that came up on a search. CFS 2 and FS2004 came shortly after and there was no turning back for me. I'm fascinated by flight and history and always willing to learn more.

At the time I regretfully registered so I could get the downloads. Then I stumbled upon the forums and was delighted to find them full of talented and intelligent people.(very rare!) There was and still is a buzz all around this site. It's full of people so dedicated to their hobby(?) it's a little intimidating for a new fella to feel comfortable criticizing someone's work.

Over the last few years I have been inspired to give back to the community as a way of saying thanks to all who paved the way. I have strapped on my gmax boots and I'm trying to create something worthy of that. 'Trying' to be a developer has taught even more appreciation for all the hard work involved. Every tweak, skin, model, or mission has brought this sim to greater levels. I love where it is at now and I'm excited to see where it will take us.

The biggest problem Rami, ...is that you are trying to pump up something, ...that has a hole in it.

CFS2, ...for most of us hard-timers, ...is a passion.

It is not a religion.

...and the Outhouse is lookin' more and more like a Sunday School class.

The Nannies, with their wooden rulers and delicate sensibilities, are getting precisely what they want, ...to the detriment of all.

The Outhouse thrived when it was a hot-bed of creativity, comradery, and conflict.

...a big sand lot with few rules and a lot of fun and learning.

Were there problems...? Yes.

Did the Mods manage to keep the peace...? Yes.

I used to look forward to weekends at the Outhouse.

...I don't go to Sunday School either.

Y'all have met the enemy, ...and you are it.

Blue Devil,

A little harsh if I may say so, but you're entitled to your opinion, so I'll let it stand.

Blue Devil you you little rogue.....I have to agree with you.:jump:

While nearly all developers like to see their work being used and plenty of screenies showing it off, most will tell you that they make the models because thats what they like to do and don't really give a rats arse about what anybody else thinks.

But....and there is a but to this....

:a1451:

Anybody who wishes to make a comment and has in depth knowledge of the subject, whether it be the actual model making or the subject of the model is listened too and brought on board.
This has happened to me on a number of occasions with veterans.

My biggest gripes are for those who don't do the correct research before they reskin a model and think they own the copywrite to do it.......YOU DON'T! Ask first please.

The others are those who expect you to toss all the research you have done for a model with all the plans you may have bought....to them without any consideration for the time and expenditure you have made then get ticked off when you refuse.

I would let the above stand but my soapbox just collapsed.:icon_lol:

regards Collin:ernae:

For me it's simple the lack of time. I look more or less each day into this forum. And I'm still working on my projects, but will post them here only when very close to ready.
And Yes I enjoy each ship, scenery, mission that is or will be released.
Thank you all for your work :applause:
