P-47D bubbletop In FSX ??

LCBORDEN

Ol' Jarhead
I all of a sudden have an overwhelming desire to play with the P-47D Bubbletop....I also realized I don't have one.....So I got to thinking....is there an excellent P47D bubbletop available for FSX....So then I thought all the knowledgeable people who can answer this question are at SOH....So then I thought, "Why not ask them" So....here we are...

What are all of you folks using when you want to fly a bubbletop thunderbolt in FSX??
Where can I aquire this aircraft?
Is it freeware?
Is it excellent?
And why don't I already know all about it??

Thanks for your help

Ol' Jarhead:wavey:

dont think there is an FSX p47 pubbletop. Only p47 thus far that i know of is a2a's acusim razorback

stiz

Yeah, I think that may be it as well. I have the A2A Accusim bolt, and it is great, but I got to thinking I want that great view the bubbletop has. I'm trying Tom Kohler's P-47M series in FSX and with a little tweaking it is working quite good. Thanks for your reply and anyone else let's hear from ya..

Ol'Jarhead :wavey:

With a little tweaking A2A's old TA-152H from the long nose package flew ok in FSX, it might work the same for A2As older P-47 package, you might get your bubble top through that. Gnoopeys P-47 took me all over FS9, loved that plane. I think A2A has a pretty full plate with other projects but if they ever did an M or N model that would be amazing. But if you don't mind having a razorback the A2A bird with accusim is simply the best P-47 there is. One way for better visiblity in the razorback...open the canopy hehe.

Good Luck
Cheers

Thanks for the reply....I did try porting over the older A2A P-47D package the old "Shockwave WingsofPower pack" everything is great. The cockpit glass is transparent the exterior textures are great. The one exception is the interior of the Virtual Cockpit textures...they are not to be found...so you have gauges but nothing else, just black space all around them. The WWII Fighter pack is DDS. format and I can't figure out how to get that Virtual cockpit to work with the older BMP. (I'm texture challenged) to the max. I've always relied on all you excellent pixel pusher. I thought of Aliasing the panel, but the virtual cockpit textures are not in the panel...not in the texture folders either. So I'm lost on that one. I'm okay with opening the canopy on the WOP3 version, but at 30,000 feet the pressure differential sucks your lungs out..so short flight... Maybe I've sparked some interest and one of you guru's of textures will pop in with a way to do this.. It is quite an excellent port over except for those textures. They must be in the MDL file or something....all stuff I have no understanding of whatsoever....

Tom Köhler's might port over...

FS2004 Republic P-47M-1 Base Package v2.3. The Republic P-47 M-1 was the fastest of the production Thunderbolt models built by Republic based on a design from Major Alexander de Seversky. An installation 'Wizard' will help you install the multi-resolution P-47 Gmax model, including clickable virtual cockpit, full animation, reflective textures with dynamic shine, backlighted VC gauges, custom effects, HTML checklists and documentation (enhanced with pages from original Pilot Operating and Training Manuals) as well as droppable tanks. The archive contains two different 3D models - one classic 3D cockpit based on a D-28 and a modernized one with mostly Concorde instruments - a 2D panel for those who want (by hand activation necessary). It includes a 'bare' aluminium base texture set. Sound package included. DXT3 as well as high resolution 888-type 32-bit textures are included. Liveries done for earlier versions up to v2.2 should fit this version. For more changes vice versa v2.2 see included change log. Package by Tom Kohler. (Previous version had 3781 downloads.) He also did some B-29s and B-50s, btw...

Yes Tom's P-47 does port over very well,I tried it this morning, with the exception of some of the gauges. A little tweaking of the panel.cfg should cure that I think. He credits his gauges to " Piglet" Tim Conrad...So I've been trying to find some of his gauges that might replace the ones that seem to be frozen. Everything else about Gnoopy's thunderbolt seems to work very well in FSX.. I also have his RB50H which I really enjoyed in FS9....however the two side windows(Pilot and Co-pilot) are black in FSX and I do not have the expertise to remedy that. That being said the big old bomber flies very well in FSX.. I have not tried the B29 series...

Overall a very productive day with all the help from you here. I haven't really been involved too much in simming the past couple years and with the purchase of a new computer, I've finding that old enjoyment once again...

Ol' jarhead:wavey: Bjoern I'm very sorry My fingers missed the (e) when I typed your reply...very sorry.

Hmm, really like Gnoopey's T'bolt in FS9. I have no problem with the 2d panel but the VC gauges are a no show. Glassy dashboard effect. Maybe because I have FSX SP2/Accel?

ol'jarhead:wavey:

A2A/Shockwave used to drop the shared textures in the FS9 main texture folder. Did you look for the VC textures there?

Cheers,
Huub

It seems to me that I had that exact glassy (mirror) effect when I tried this P-47 in my FSX Acceleration a long time ago...

EXPAT N DAUBE

I don't get the glassy textures so much, it's only when I turn on the cockpit lighting the gauges are outlined in semi-shiny squares....a small distraction for me....The gauges are very visible and functional, except for the ASI (airspeed) it shows multi needles and is fairly worthless. I suppose if you don't fall out of the sky you're going fast enough, and if you do fall out of the sky you're not going fast enough, so Airspeed gauge is overrated... I'm pleased to see others are reading this thread and taking interest.... I have to say Tom Kohler's P47 has been one of my favorites..and it a challenge to try to use it in FSX...Keep thinking up good solutions, I'm sure we will all benefit from our combined efforts.

Man, thanks for the memory jog..... I have the Aeroplane Heaven P47 saved on disc somewhere....It was used extensively way back when....My old computer couldn't handle it, to its potential.. I will definitely dig it out and give it a try. On topic for Aeroplane Heaven, What re-do's or new stuff are you guys working on???? Is it your team that is doing the BOB anniversary Hurricane and such???? In either case thanks for the reply I will go digging through my old disc's and see if I still have it....(the P47)

Awesome, I never thought of looking there... I will try to find them, and put them in each texture folder and see how that goes....Thanks for that info...

off topic...Downloaded your Me109 textures for the A2A WWII fighter Me109, excellent work.

G'day mate,

Yep we've been up to a fair bit recently. the BoB set, Wildcat and Martlet, SE5A, C47 and DC3 under dev at the moment along with the Comet and a few others for Just Flight. We've also been doing a bit for Wilco with the Tilt Rotor and Avanti and another secret project in build at the moment and the P51D for Flight1. Busy bees you might say...

The P47 had a biggish upgrade a while back with files for FSX. So if it's bubbletops you're after, there's the D and the M series in there with "Tarheel Hal", "Dottie Mae", "Rabbit" and others including Brazilian AF and Mexico.

I've just loaded them up myself and gone for a spin. They get around FSX just fine. Haven't flown the "jug"in a long while so thanks for jogging my memory too...:engel016:

VC COCKPIT TEXTURES

HUUB VINK your were right on target :salute: I found the virtual cockpit textures, or probably all the cockpit textures inside the FS9 main texture folder. I just scrolled down till I got to (P) area and there they were. there are quite a few, it is likely they go to more than one aircraft or maybe not. they are as follows

P-47_C0, P-47_C1, P-47_C1D,P-47_C2,P-47_C2D,P-47_C3,P-47_C3,P-47_C3D,P-47_C4,P-47_C4A,P-47_C4D,P-47_C5,P-47_C5A,P-47_C5D,P-47_C6,P-47_C7,P-47_C7,P-47_C8,P-47_C9 all followed by the .BMP extension.

also as I scrolled I found pilot_japan, Pilot_us, and various prop.bmp files.

I transferred the files into each texture file then transferred the aircraft files WOP-P47D-22 etc. into my FSX files....if you don't have any other A2A files in FSX you'll probably need to transfer each gauge-.cab as well. Started up FSX and VOILA the cockpits are all there. HUUB, you made my day.... I would not have looked in that texture folder, ever.....So thank you very much.

I hope this works as well for anyone else wishing to have the bubble top in FSX. Tom Kohlers works pretty dang well...also too.

Huub Vink

you did more than help on this one. It took a little looking and copy paste, swapping things about, tweaking a little, but it seems to be the right textures. Have been flying the bubbletop for about two hours and everything seemed perfect.
Thanks again for your help.
