I once had a Ford Sierra in the UK, in 4 years of ownership never changed the oil once. I had no idea when the previous owner may have done so either. Even ran it through one cold winter without its radiator for a couple of weeks. Was still running sweetly when I traded it. It was a great car.
I only am efficient now to keep my current car in warranty it being the first new car I ever bought. Otherwise I blv that the car companies want us to repalce the oil too freq.
I think there's a point to Naismith's contention on auto oil changes...you can do it too often. Best car I ever drove for reliability was a '72 Chevy Impala. We never changed the oil. In fact, when I went to change it after my dad sold it....I couldn't get the oil filter off....it had been compressed to the block in some sort of impact with the ground.
That being said, if you know something about oil and it's work on the engine......
