Issues with hardcoded lights

tommieboy

SOH-CM-2025
I notice on my computer that the hardcoded lights (on all aircraft) seem to shift away from their intended positions. Has anyone else had this issue? I never noticed this in FS9.

Current setup is:
XP Home
2 GIGs RAM
FSX SP1
EVGA GTX-285
Nhancer 2.5.9

Hi
In tower view? if so its a known bug with a catch 22 :)
for example landing lights, hard coded will wonder in tower view, aircraft.cfg added lights dont wonder but they also dont show splash's of light on the runway.....Doh!! There is a workaround but its up to the designer to implement it and not something an end user can fix/do
Cheers

Is there a light section in the aircraft.cfg ? it looks to me to be light markers used to set scrape points that have not been removed, the angle of the screenshot makes it difficult to determine if the light just to the right of the fuselage is nose scrape area.

It's a known FS bug which has been in FSX since beta and has never been fixed.. :) Such is the way of things... You can code in lit polys into the model for lights rather than using the effects engine, but it requires a recompile of the original source model.

The odd thing about those white lights is why are they there showing to the front. I can just make out the port red nav light where it should be in the wing tip, the blue formation lights are not misplaced on wings or fuselage, the white lights that I think should not be there coincide with where scrape points should be.

What/who's model is it ?

Rich, that looks like the AS B-36. I have it myself, havent used it since donkeys years in FSX though. Wish there was a better one for FSX......... Now A2A would do that fine, they would probably even be able to code in 6 props and 4 jets! :jump:

Craig thanks for that, the AS B36, Ito B36 and one for Fs 2002 are the only ones I know of and I think the AS model was Fs9 so maybe it is that one ported to FSX.

SADT, this is what I get with the As B36, proper landing lights under the jet pods, no blue formation lights the blue lights you see are taxiway lights with none of the white lights as per the problem plane

I havent used it in ages, not even in the hangar - in the virtual boneyard, that picture probably being one of the reasons.

BTW - what was that runway you used? It looks like it has arrestor cables on it. Are they functional?

The screenshot is in "fly-by" view.....

Sadt, it has languished on my comp for years unused and forgotten, the runway is on Sangley AB in the Philippines about 8 miles from here, the arrester cables do work and are placable anywhere,
I use them to set up my carrier planes saves time going after a carrier every time.

Yes, it is the AS B-36. I can't live without it....

Only the three lights with the arrow pointed at them are hard-coded. The fourth hard-coded light is no doubt off-set the same amount and hiding within the fuselage. All the rest of the lights are set via the aircraft.cfg and show up in the right places with no issues.

Tommy try FSX SP2 it may help.

I get no blue lights is there a hidden switch

Post the light section from your aircraft.cfg.

Post the light section from your aircraft.cfg.

Check to see if you have fx_navblu.fx in your Effects folder. No hidden switches, the "formation" light switch is on the main panel. You can also just press "L" (once or twice) to light up the whole plane as a quick and dirty check.

Can I uninstall SP2 if I don't like it? Or am I stuck with it once I install it?

I think your model is still the initial FSX release; maybe something changed with the updated releases.

Yep it seems to affect all my aircraft (including the default aircraft); on some aircraft it's really not that bad though.
