GTX 470 vs GTX 480

Just considering whether or not the extra money is really advantageous in buying the 480 versus the 470 Fermi. I have seen the charts on Tom's Hardware and there is a difference, but as someone that had to have the GTX 295 last year, only to have the 480 come out a few months later, not convinced the mostest is always the best choice. Graphically, my 295 is still a beast of a card, but like the DX10/11 capability of the DDR5 memory. However, looking for an SLI configuration and the cost of a second 295 card is as much as the 470.

Anyway, looking for thoughts and suggestions. I play mostly sims, FSX in particular, but many other flight and tank sims as well.

Matt

I strongly suggest that you get two 470's rather than one 480... you get SLI, a ton more speed and... well... it's nearly the same price...

I did after checking around. totally worth it.

Thanks Colin, kinda what I was leaning toward. Now, to get rid of my GTX 295....

Also, did the Fermi make a difference?

A guy at HardOCP that owned a GTX 470 and a GTX 480 said the GTX 470 was actually louder. I have not owned a GTX 470 though so I can't offer any personal advice regarding that card.

I went with the GTX 480 and have been totally pleased with my purchase.

This might help .

They helped me out a lot . They even showed me how to put the bios of 5870 into my 5850 ,it was like a free upgrade .And did a few tweaks, and a BA OC .

You may could sell the other card to them .

How much louder might the 470 be versus the 480? I am leaning toward two 470's as a compromise and will wait until mid October to see if the price drops more. I also think I'll take XLR8's advice and sell the other on the overclockers website, seems to be a better mover of items for sale.

Just a heads up. I think I read that the ati 6000 come out in October . So waiting might be a good idea . I saved $75 on my 5850 waiting for the 400 series to come out .

I've just got a GTS250 on mine so already I'm wanting to upgrade because these newer cards look and sound from the reviews to be awesome!
