Using other people's work... A reminder aimed at newer members.
We all do mess about with other people's work, of course. You can do what you like on your own computer, but if you want to release it to the public, then it's a bit more complicated.
In other words, there has been yet another case of work being used without permission... That new D.520 skin which you may have downloaded was done without prior permission, as I'm sure you can tell when you look at it... The original skin is one of mine, but it's been converted back and forth from dds to bmp so often you might as well have put it through the "blur" filter. He contacted me after uploading it, to "inform" me of its existence. I didn't agree, of course.
I think we all agree that permission should be sought BEFORE releasing reworks of other people's material whenever possible. Sometimes, if it isn't possible, you just have to use your brains, as the warning on the SOH uploads page makes clear....
But if I'm being bloody-minded in this particular case, it's because I'm really very easy to find, and am generally very happy to help budding skinners in whatever way I can. Most of the old hands are approachable and helpful, so this sort of thing - that's twice in one month or so - should not be happening.
