For Kelti and Morton...and anyone else who is interested...

Hello,

While the staff is debating what we might do for Christmas presents, I think I can come up with one for the CFS2 gang, provided I get some help. As many of who who fly in Europe are aware, there is one German plane that is sorely lacking, at least in terms of an up-to-date, multi-lod version, this being the Junkers Ju-52.

http://www.ju52-3m.ch/models.htm (The first one on the page!)

With this in mind, the FS9 Ju-52 from the Junkers Ju-52 had been converted, this has six levels of detail, making her a perfect kite for CFS2. So, while the pictures are impressive, there is some work to be done.

1) For starters, we need a new airfile, or at least some considerable modifications.

2) We'll need some skins...Desert, Eastern Front, Balkans / Crete, and the Western Front / Norway. (Maybe even some winter skins...)

3) The panel, including the virtual cockpit, are quite solid, they just need a bit of tweaking.

4) The .dp file will be the biggest challenge. We do have paratroopers that can be loaded as weapons, but we'll also need guntubes, the RAF gunners from Martin Wright, and the blisters that Sopwith Chameleon used when he modified the FDG C-47 to help create the Lisounov Li-2t.

Even in her present state, however, she "flies circles" around her competition. All we need is some work to finish her up!

Looks like a real beauty Rami!! Will maybe take a look at this one as soon as I can finish my aluminium Superfortress packages.

Morton,

Thanks, and I also threw a line toward RobH to see if he might be interested...

There's only a VC entry that has to be done? I've got a program that can do that.

Hello Rami

If we are looking at reskinning this old girl, should an initial Paint Template be set up to allow for multiple repaints, as the potential for "skins" is quite large ? :kilroy:

A couple of scans to help us all get motivated:-

Is this Junkers the one called Ju52_v60? If so, I have a half-cooked .dp file among my forgotten projects. I have the guntubes and the RAF gunners, but could you direct me to those blisters by SC and the paratroopers as weapons?

I don't know if these are the paratroops Rami is referring to ?

The DHC-4 Caribou at Simviation had an 'Upgrade file' that included a modified DP for paratroops as well as an airdrop. Name of the file was bouload7.zip

Simviation link is:-

[PAYLOAD.1]

mount.8=wep_Paratrooper_1, 1, -1
mount.9=wep_Paratrooper_2, 1, -1
mount.10=wep_Paratrooper_3, 1, -1

Was it 17 paratroops for the Ju52, someone please advise ?

Can CFS2 handle an airdrop sideways out of the fuselage ? Or does the airdrop package need to appear to have come out of the fuselage ?

Seagull,

You are correct. As far as how to position the payload drop, we'll have to see.

Japlance,

No, my good friend. This is version 6.1B at the top of the page.

If you download the weapons pack for the Lisuonov Li-2t, the blister you need is inside.

Additional info on the paratroops:-

The link is the same one as Rami's, but click on the following in:-

Add-on 6.2 "Luftwaffe" (2.30 MB)
Paints
- Luftwaffe Summer 1K+ZM
- Luftwaffe Winter CN+4V "Where Eagles Dare"
with
PARATROOPS
(You need the ju52v60.zip)

Looks like a paratroop effect, can the Caribou/Ju-52 data be blended for a best result ? :isadizzy:

Seagull,

That's true, but the only thing I question is whether the skins for version 6.0 will fit 6.1B...after checking they actually don't, they're named differently.

And, in order for the AI to srop paratroopers, they really do need to be weapons.

Hello Rami

When I get a spare moment I'll have a look at the different skins for the different versions. As I have been updating the paint job for the SE-100B I have had a few issues with different sizes matching to the original. If I have any success I will let you know. :salute:

Hi folks,

Thanks Rami, that's the model I have (the one called model.JAIR), just that the folder I had was named that way, probably because I updated from version 6.0. Unfortunately, the Junkers of update 6.2 are not multi-LOD, because they were specifically built as Luftwaffe planes.

I found the paratroopers by myself a while ago, and did try to use them... it's going to be hard to fit them in the plane without protruding: they have the parachute open. Passengers and cargo has been much easier.

Edit: Luftwaffe skins from 6.2 work in 6.1. Just changing the names works quite well. The only glitch is that the roof seems to be mirrored, so the winter cammo needs some reworking. Also, since the RAF Pilots and gunners I used as passengers come with their own seats, I had to delete with an Alpha-channel the standard seats that come with the plane.

Japlance,

I was very happy to see that the chairs actually were part of one of the texture bitmaps, this means at least in theory that they could be painted out. So it's good that you mentioned that.

Now as far as the paratroopers, perhaps some reading this might try to design new ones?

Thanks to Japlance, we're made a lot of progress. The only problem thus far is that guntubes cannot be placed so that they allow for waist gunners to shoot out the sides of the aircraft.

The airfile is much better, at least I can get her off the ground. I also like the fact that you need a lot of rudder to bring the ol' girl around!
