IRIS Platinum Series A-10A Warthog Released!!

I have a question regarding the 76 page manual, it says to see Section 11 about the right indicator lights on the console to how what they all mean, but I don't see a section 11 in the Manual..

Does anybody know if the updated file was uploaded to fspilotshop.com yet?

Is there any other place that i can get the updated file from?

A-10 v1.2 installer questions

It's come to our attention some have had problems with the new installer. The A-10 V1.2 has a new step in the installation process. It will now ask you for a registration code, name & email.
The registration code is on the same page in the instructions. Simply copy/paste, type, that same code into the box, add your name & email.

We are NOT harvesting details, the installer does NOT send data anywhere, it does NOT upload any information. It simply records the data to your own drives as part of the installation process.

There has been a coule of questions about this, namely "where can I get the code". In the excitement of installing the A-10 the code is easily missed, but if you reread the instructions it is there. If you have any questions, please ask.:)

@Death Eagle: Will check the manual asap and get back to you.

@hammer: All stores were sent the email with the file at the same time. You do need to get the update from the store of purchase. Will look into it if the file is not up soon.

Thanks for your feedback guys.

Here's my short and sweet early review for anyone who likes to read my ramblings... (who am I kidding, lol)

She's a beautiful plane. The artwork is overall very nicely done. All of the parts of the VC that matter are high resolution so there's no trouble reading switches. The paints included are of high quality as well. I'm not an A-10 expert but the model itself looks exactly like some of the A-10's I've seen at airshows and it compares well to photos I found online.

The flight model is also nicely done. She's a quick one in the clean configuration but load some weapons on and she'll be much more tame. You can really feel the difference between flying the plane clean and flying it heavy with bombs and fuel tanks attached. I don't know why, and I can't really back it up with numbers right now, but she still feels just a hair fast. Maybe as I get some more hours on her I'll get a better feel. My only real criticism of the flight model is the ground handling, especially with braking. To me she taxis sort of like a naval plane or a F-16 where the mains are closer together. Sometimes when using the brake she just wants to tip over, even at slower speeds. The suspension is also a bit too bouncy, but that's really nit picking. After all, it is FLIGHT simulator, and not taxi simulator. I always criticize flight models the most but I really don't have much to complain about on this one. Great job.

I'll leave systems modeling to another reviewer who goes into the plane in greater depth. Plus I've not had quite enough time to dig into all of the modeled features. The effects add a nice touch, especially the cannon fire. This isn't VRS by a long shot (didn't take 5 years to build either!), but I still enjoy the level of complexity presented.

My only real complaint is the sound. 1.2 certainly sounds better than the videos of the earlier version I saw and heard, but it still didn't sound like the A-10 I've seen perform at airshows so many times. I like this plane so much I decided to drop a little more money on the TSS sound set. It sounds exactly like the A-10 to me. I mixed the cfg files a little so the sound effects like the callouts and cannon still work. I'm assuming I had to do a little mixing for them to work. Admittedly, I didn't try the virgin TSS soundpack.

EDIT: I forgot my favorite part! The coolest part about this plane is the subject material itself. Bada$$ plane. Just gotta remember that those ain't afterburning turbojets on the back. I nearly splattered myself short of the runway once because of the engine lag...

As always, these are my opinions. Most of my complaints are pretty subjective, so IRIS has done an outstanding job with this one. Every release seems to keep getting better. Out of all the payware companies I've been familar with since I started buying addons, IRIS has improved the most. That certainly deserves a :applause:.

Thanks to the whole IRIS team for creating such a monster for us to enjoy! Keep up the great work! :salute:

As of my last check, still the original file (as far as I can tell). And since the original Fspilotshop receipt says "no license required" will that cause an issue with the new installer?

Bill,
No. As has been pointed out the installer comes with the instructions and the registration code in the package. You don't need anything from the store of purchase, just type (coy/paste) what is in the installer, on the same page it prompts you to put the code.

I have made a post (2 up) about the steps, information involved.

Cheers.

David,

Thanks. After writing that post, and then re-reading what you said two posts above, I sort of had figured that out.

Just looked at Fspilotshop, and re-downloaded about 5 mins ago. Installer is still dated 10/2, so still looks like the original. Hopefully they get it sorted tomorrow.

Thanks
Bill

Did someone else miss the "Gun Ready" and the "Canopy unlocked" Light. I have all Systems running and all necessary knobs switched on but the lights did not work.

I missed that completely! That will teach me to actually read stuff, as opposed to assuming that the code was elsewhere(although, to be fair, it always has been before:sleep: ) so apologies for bugging Iris with a support ticket

Now to get back to flying the heck out of this beauty!

I also noticed, on the black/white/green camo version, the pilot is a certain Capt. Brooker Surely warchild could have made herself a Colonel :jump: Dont know who the other versions are flown by (yet)

Superb update David :) I have one problem, I cannot get indications on the AOA-indexer, does anyone else have this (version 1.2) ? I understand it should work with gear down. I have found the AOA indexer/AR light intensity knob but this does nothing.

Thanks

I installed ver.1.2 and it´s an amazing plane! Thanks IRIS! I have two questions for you guys:

1: Look at the picture below:

After 1.2 install i looked over the folders created, and saw that inside the folder "IRIS A-10A Warthog - TR" there are 4 subfolders with complete aircrafts (With .cfgs and .airs and textures). The question is if it supposed to be like this or something went wrong with my installation? (I didin´t touch in anything after the install. Don´t even installed the hot fix for 1.2 yet)

The files duplicated inside this folders has the same size of the files in the correct place (SimObjects/Airplanes)

2: I didn´t managed to find the file "i_a10_flaps.wav" either and it´s mentioned in the sound.cfg. Can someone show the directions to where it is?

My installation .exe file was downloaded from simmarket.com today (10/16/2010)

Thanks!

Disregard, I just turned Signals Lts to bright and everything works, sorry David :)

Thanks

Can anyone else confirm the flight dynamics for (1.2) is an improvement? I do not see much of a change and seems to me, the takeoff acceleration has not changed much if any at all. (seems to accel too quickly in level flight too)
Just curious what was changed with 1.2

Thank you!

The flight dynamics in 1.2 are fantastic in my opinion. The plane has a much slower and more accurate Vh (max level flight speed); I can only get to about 380 KIAS clean and light and with external stores about 360 KIAS. Vne is HARD to get to now, which it should be with a plane with this much drag. Turning performance isnt as good (which is also a good thing). In a high g turn airspeed bleeds off quickly even at max thrust, which is also accurate. So it feels pretty good to me from what I've seen and read. And if you look in the .cfg files you can see why; the parasite and induced drag coefficients have been changed considerably. Acceleration feels lesser on takeoff roll and in level flight than in the initial release. It feels very very good now. High alpha 'mush' feels good. Also, the longitudinal in-stability during roll of v1.0 seems to be damped a lot more - probably simulating the Yaw Stability Augmentation System's effect in compensating for adverse yaw? At higher speeds obvious adverse yaw comes back, which also matches what I've read here.

All in all, it feels VERY different than the initial release, and it feels great to me.:applause:

Excellent work IRIS; you just raised the bar WAY up there. This one's gonna be very very hard to beat.

Sorry to ask again, but: everybody is hearing flaps sounds? The .wav that is associated with the flaps is missing!!! At least with simmarket.com installer.

Can someone confirm please?
Thanks!
