quick combat databases failure

Hey Guys!

This is my first post, though I've been flying CFS2 for many years and visiting SOH almost as long.
Just upgraded my system and did a new install of CFS2. After adding Operation Victor & Iceberg (which I've done before), when startin Quick Combat, I'm getting the message "Failed to initialize databases. You may need to reinstall this product as some of the data files are missing or corrupted." followed by "Generation of Quick Combat mission failed!" I've had this happened a long time ago, but can't remember how to fix it. All I added were layouts to the layout folder and runway bgls to scenedb/runways/scenery folder and runway data to the airbases.dat file. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all the hard work by everyone over the years - SOH is the best CFS site ever !!

Hello gothtog

There was a discussion about useful/recommended utility, if you read down to about the 5th post by mariereid, he has attached the file as well.

mk_cfs2_util_v2.zip

Also allows you to store the aircraft in the locations that you want.
eg you can have a Battle of Poland, Battle of France, Battle of Britain, Coastal Command, Allied Bombing Campaign etc to divide your aircraft up into. You can then set your QC for each one.

After you have installed/setup you can click on the second tab and you will see an option for Quick Combat, saves all the trouble of manually updating the QC.

Always had this problem in various degrees, soetimes it kicks in about 85-90 aircraft installed, other times I have had close to 200 aircraft before it starts.

Many, many thanks to Morton for this superb utility. :ernae:

Welcome aboard, Gothtog! Just yesterday, I tried to change the name of a ship. I though I covered all the bases, but got that dreaded message. When I removed the ship all was fine. If your like me, your in a great rush to get things up and running. Just take your time, when ya run into problems come here. You will find a bunch of great guys who have a lot of knowledge. :ernae:

Yup.....

I've had the same thing and done same as you, Ghostrider, though it hasn't happened in a long time now (prob'ly will as soon as I fire it up next time now that I've said that).

Yes, quite often if you just re-click once or twice, CFS 2 will cycle, open and fly the mission when flying in QC.

Mariered,

Changing the name of a ship takes a bit more editing than airplanes.

1. Change the folder name to what you want

2. Change the DP file name to that of the folder name

3. Open up the ship.cfg file and change the sim name there

Unlike an airplane folder name in CFS 2, a ship name must have an interlocking relationship of the name in the folder, DP and sim name in the ship.cfg file.

Jagd,
I been doing that all along with all my aircraft!

I change the name of the everything; like:

P-38J to P-38L

Folder/DP/Airfile/aircraft.cfg-simname/model-mdl and model.cfg

I make all of them agree on the name.

Airplanes V. Ship Names

Hey DD,

Check you PMs when you get a minute.

You're probably following good practice, but it's not necessary. The Airplane's folder name can be quite different from the contents inside the folder. What is required though is that the sim name in the aircraft.cfg file match that of the DP file's name and the FM file's na me.

[fltsim.0]
title=B-24D Liberator <<--This line can be what you want it to be and will be in the drop down menus
sim=B24D_Liberator <<--This line must match the DP and FM titles
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=

Due to this feature, you can have the same basic airplane, with different folder names for it, installed several times in your aicraft folder. CFS 2 will look for the "Title=name" line in the .cfg file when listing the plane in the drop down menus and not the folder name. With different title names and textures in the texture folder and different folder names you can have the same basic aircraft function as a plane from different squadrons or aircraft carriers in the same CFS 2 installation. As I understand it, the aircraft folder names are rather immaterial as far as CFS 2 is concerned.

As you know, the FS series of flight sims all put the different skins and title names into the same folder and cfg file. While you can do this with CFS 2 (with much editing), CFS 2 works much better with seperate skins built into seperate or indepentent aircraft folders.

All excellent information. One more thing to add: Mission Builder >>WILL NOT WORK<< if you do get the messages and just "OK" them. You must remove the problem. I've found exceeding the 100 ship or aircraft limit the major cause of the messages for me.

Good Luck!:wavey:

Thanks Jadg. I thought I did all that, but I'll give it another shot. I'm just getting the nerve to experiment with things. What's the worst that could happen!:ernae::salute:

Hmmm...wonder how gothtog is making out?

Good info, fellas, thanks!:salute:

It happens every time I take off in FF or QC. I guess it's because of those 300+ aircraft in my main install:wiggle:
It just doesn't seem to be an issue. I just click through the database error. Been flying like that for years. (This is actually on a Mac Pro running XP)

But no, MB definitely will not start with more than about 90 A/C
